How do people do one job their entire lifetime?

Doesn't insanity set in at some point? If you're a dentist, you began dental school when you're in your early 20's. My dentist was still going at it at 80, probably the nicest person i've ever met. No idea how people do it, year 37, day 9,126, of going to the same office, doing the same procedures and tasks day after day - some careers have new challenges, creativity in them so i can see people remaining happy with their careers but dentists, optometrists, barbers, etc - even doctors, same shit every day, not like the average family doctor is on the cutting edge of anything, more sore throats, more prescriptions for anti-depressants, more passing on serious illnesses to specialists

webmaster is just as bad, or worse, just such a new type of career that at most people have put 15 years in it.

many go silently koo-koo, shut down, develop weird self-destructive behaviors, imagined maladies ... seen a few people i know do exactly that.

I would never stay in a job I got sick off and I'm pretty sure the company would also appreciate you leaving so they can find someone who is interested. Luckily I enjoy porn so I'm in the right job

If the pay is good and the work is enjoyable, then doing the same thing day in and day out is easy and a pleasure.

Your idea of freedom it's popping from one job to another? That's laughable ...

get a job you really like and you shouldn't have that problem.
being your own boss helps though

In my case I made my hobby my job which makes me work longer and harder, however I do it with joy :-)
i wake up every morning with a smile on my face and go to work

I enjoy the freedoms I have, new projects that interest me, working whenever I feel like it.

However I do miss shooting the shit with friends at work, it does get lonely at times working by yourself. Thinking back to 9-5 office work however...

I'd go braindead having to do that again.

since when does your job have to define you as a person? I personally know doctors, engineers and some business owners that hate their work as much as the next person... doesn't mean they don't enjoy their lives or who they are though..

'fun' or 'creatively stimulating' jobs either don't exist or don't pay... everyone else just uses a different level of imagination to convince themselves otherwise.

True.

I know loads of people who aren't exactly happy with what they are doing, but don't want to change because at least they know what they are facing each day with no surprises...

No idea. I went from trainee chef, to trainee designer/pattern maker in the dress trade, to market trader, to running my own factory, to selling office furniture, to selling advertising to being a pornographer.

Now a full time troll.

at least 8 hours of people's days are at work, another 8 is spent sleeping roughly, add in the mundane chores that need to be done, that's 5 days a week - if somebody hates their work then i don't see how they can enjoy their lives, being that such a huge amount of their time is doing something they don't like.

people who love what they do whether they're rich or poor financially from it are blessed.

LMAO, yeah, thats always been a problem with me.

I've had a few different professions before doing online porn, before this, being a bartender in a night club in LA was the funnest, now it's doing what I do now, if you love your work, it's not work. I'm coming up on my 10th year of it. I just met Earl Miller, he's going to celebrate 40 years!

list of professions
Submarines
Truck Driver
Bartender
Elevator construction and repair
Vending machine refurb and repair
Automatic door installation and repair

think about that

85% don't. They cheat. The other 15% get permission for sex with others.

It is complicated matter and opinion on this can vary. I was born in country that normal thing would be that once you get job, you will probably do it until rest of your life. You were protected like a polar bear and that was normal thing. Now, when there is no more such security, people are nervous, scared, full of problems and aggression so from that point of view, it's much better to do one job ,for sure. At the end ,you have a choice to choose which one and after being many years with that job,you are becoming real expert.

There was a time work was something that paid decent, you worked hard and didnt steal you had a job for life. CEO's saw themselves as head of a family and took pride in people that were with the company for a long time. But in the 80's people became human capital and CEO were in to make a quick buck and get out. People didnt matter and people started bouncing.
