lol, why do people have to humanize everything they see, they are cats, not people. Cats leave traces of scent with their paws when kneading something, the cat is claiming the dead body in an act of dominance. It has nothing to do with friendship or his buddy, ugh.

Probably the same reason another group of people animalize everything they see. It's all they know.

The truth, though, is that a couple of factoids you picked up on animal planet don't dictate the course in every situation. Research on animal emotion is murky at best, though it seems to suggest that it's quite possible there's more there than just survival of the fittest running through the minds of some animals.

But what does Wikipedia know?

The TRUTH, since you seem to know it all with such authoritative fact, is that a cat will knead for dominance and comfort. Cats have scent glands on the pads of their paws. When kneading, some of the scent is released onto whatever they are kneading, and that scent is a territorial marker for other cats that will come along and claim the item or property. So when your cat is kneading your lap, he's not only telling you he feels comfortable and secure, but he's claiming you as his own. Hence what he is doing to the dead cat's body.

I agree animals can have emotions, I just don't see it in this video. The aggressive kneading with both back and front paws actually suggests to me he could care less about the body in a positive manner.

Sorry I interrupted the dead cat bonding here, you can all go back to hugging each other.

we all know animals are capable of deep 'human' emotions - some more than many people i guarantee. just read this board and any other forum or comments section on any website and you'll see how seriously fucked up people are when it comes to how they treat others. sad world and it is getting worse.

youtube is filled with some incredible animal videos, some have been posted here, the one where a lion in a zoo reunites with the woman who cared for him as a cub - right out of a Disney movie and not a chance in hell that wasn't real. and one where a brave little dog drags another dog that's been hit by a car across 8 lanes of highway traffic to safety.

Well, if you don't see it, then it must be so, right? Truth is, you don't know. Mothering cats eat their dead babies because they love them so much right? You have not came out and flatly said it but your consistent argument against my claim of "An animal is acting like an animal" shows otherwise or you just plain like to argue or possibly a hardcore cat fan that is offended by reality.

I respect cats and love how primitive and/or instinctive they are. Putting clothes on them, keeping them in your purse, babying them like children, and humanizing them is ridiculous. Your cat may be your best friend and you have spent 15 years cuddling with them on the couch, however, pour an unknown cats urine on one of their toys and try and take it from them, see how fucking much they "love" you now when they go for your neck. That is instinct and they live by it.

Btw, I want to clarify that I do believe cats can get sad, happy, angry, etc. What I don't believe is that these emotions can be based on anything else other than what has happened to them. For example, a cat is sad or depressed because of a shitty owner that does not feed it or keep it's litter clean. I do not believe cats get sad because the other cat they live with did not get feed or have it's litter cleaned. They are selfish animals because of instinct and survival.
