Probably the same reason another group of people animalize everything they see. It's all they know.
The truth, though, is that a couple of factoids you picked up on animal planet don't dictate the course in every situation. Research on
animal emotion is murky at best, though it seems to suggest that it's quite possible there's more there than just survival of the fittest running through the minds of some animals.
But what does Wikipedia know?
