Thanks to all the haters of .xxx you helped me get some good domains

Due to all the fear created by .xxx haters I was able register some good .xxx domains. In fact I think the smart people did this on purpose to have the chance to snap up the good domains.

I also started to listen to all the BS and rumors in which had no foundation, because of this I missed out on 4 domains that I wanted due to hesitation.

The majority of advice given to me on GFY has been beneficial, and I appreciated very much. But being afraid of the what if, is just plain foolish.

So, one time, a good friend of mine who is black called me and asked me for a loan... he told me that he had to pay a lawyer in Nigeria to help him get his inheritance money... I refused to help him because I am capable of thinking and could see the scam immediately.

You know it reminds of the time I posted about these mafia types who came to my store one day and said I had to pay them ridiculous amounts of money or bad things could happen to my business.

And many haters on here said "They're just a bunch of opportunistic hoods looking to cash in using fear tactics."

So I don't know, maybe I should have paid them. To make a long story short they were eventually caught and thrown in jail and their little mafia enterprise faded away.

I grabbed 4 .xxx domains. We'll see how it all goes down, $400 is nothing.

But, as far as I can see, .xxx and IFFOR are no different than .com and ASACP. The price started out at the original .com price and will decrease just like the .com price. ICM is offering services that .com doesn't, such as spending money on marketing the .xxx extension, virus/spyware scanning, taking a proactive response to piracy, and offering traffic portals.

The defensive registrations aren't much different than those you would see on other new extensions, as we have seen in the past. And frankly, I blame those overreacting to the .xxx extension such as the universities around the country for not being savvy enough to recognize that there is virtually no threat or interest in the domains they are registering. And, trademark infringement isn't tolerated, as we've seen.

After wading through all the scare tactics prior to the launch of .xxx, I really don't see what the big deal is any longer.

I don't see why you call them good domains when there is no competition to buy them.

I think it's the competition to buy domains that make them valuable.

thats usually the case with most things, I usually do well shorting stocks when the hype is to buy. But like I said most of the info I have received here is solid, and no other board I have seen in any industry has been more help to me. I am talking about advice here on all subjects.

if you pre-reg the names and someone pre-reged a second before you they won the domain, so it was removed from your account. It happened to me and made sense. Also anything trademarked was taken back, you need to have common sense too in which many people just looked to take advantage.

I thought about registering the most popular blog network in Japan, yeah it was a devious thought and decided not to, but some hong kong guys took it and will try to extort them.

Smart man here, if your an adult webmaster and you don't get involved in something that pertains to your business you can regret it in the future.

As far as defensive reg. goes, you can send a S&D letter to the domain holder if they reg. your mark, and contact ICM, that is if you are using it in commerce. People don't realize that if you are to prove trademark you need to prove that your using it already in commerce before the other party.

The $400 you spent is like dinner in a decent NYC restaurant.

Like most of the domains posted in the buy and sell, they might not be worth much to you or your business, but can be loved by the owner for other reasons.

Well the extension is fucking cool in my opinion, the mainstream one I picked up is sports related.

The others I registered, most of the .com versions all have parked pages in which means they are worth something because people are looking to sell them. Another I purchased is a website that is popular for visiting a particular country. Generic words...

I did not register any .xxx domains that I already own the .com, .net, or .org since I do not run a popular well know website yet or run a program. So my situation is different then most on here. Of course I would be upset if I had 50 super websites going, and I had to purchase an expensive domain extension for each.

You might have just gotten lucky, I have heard some scary stories out of Sicily where most of the time you either end up missing or paying. Then again if you know people who know people it can get squashed.

I dislike the fact that it seems DotXXX appears to know about every domain name being registered by those choosing to do so... How many of you guys actually have someone working in the industry knowing exactly which .com domain names you have registered almost immediately after paying for them?

Seems like that kind of information could potentially be used as an unfair business advantage by DotXXX especially if it were for an underdeveloped niche paysite.

I'm sorry but when i register a domain name, i don't want anyone else knowing about it until *I* am ready to let others know about it, especially those working in the adult business

I've only seen 2 instances where he's known who registered domains. Both were because of personal email contact, mine included. I don't believe there is any way to connect a domain registration and a board nick.

The honest to God truth of the matter. Many of you that get what you think is a good .xxx domain will be just as successful with it as your were with any other domain you have owned. If you had a million views a day before .xxx you will do so again after. If you struggled to get 10000 his a day to a site before .xxx you will have the same problems after.

Google has decreased the amount of weight it puts on keyword rich domains, many anticipate that the trend will continue, and there are plenty of seo factors which are more important than the domain name. Even if .xxx is able to successfully execute their marketing plan (that's a big if) and make .xxx the preferred tld destination of the end user (that's a much bigger if), there will be a slow adaptation curve which will more than likely outlast the first year media blitz. When taking all of those facts into consideration along with the fact that an overwhelming majority of the true 'premium' domain names were already taken, I think it's reasonable to assume that the op's domains are not nearly as good as he believes them to be.

So true, if someone sucks with a .com, they still suck with a .xxx

This. And if YOU hadn't mentioned elsewhere that there had been email contact, I wouldn't have commented.

The others I registered, most of the .com versions all have parked pages in which means they are worth something because people are looking to sell them.
So, let me get this straight. MOST of the .xxx domains you bought have corresponding .com's that aren't a marketable enough collection of vowels and consonants to build out into a business, but you think the .xxx versions are the shit?

That is awesome. I am really, really, really, happy to compete in this space against people like you.

It's a little hard for you to be impartial, when you're the registry selling these domains. You're like the parent who thinks their precious baby is so adorable, when other people find it absolutely hideous.
