best country/place to live in South/Central America

My purposes are:
1. you should be able to live OK for 1000 usd monthly (staying in one place mostly)
2. access to spanish schools/ volunteer options to learn spanish well
3. good internet connection
4. ability to a) rent/buy cheap motorbike/scooter from local people and use it for your transportation needs
b) ability to pick up local chicks easy as they should like/love gringos... not especially hookers but some normal decent ladies.

I have lived in Colombia for 10 years. Both Medellin or Cali would fit your bill perfectly.

Warning about motor bikes, you might as well put a bullseye on your back. You will be able to live ok on 1000 per month, not like a king.

Costa Rica ? San Jose ? Always rainy, very bad life threathening roads, if you die, you get burried the same day, no exceptions... think about your family.

Mexico outside of Cabo San Lucas ? You wanna die already ?

Colombia ? Are you nuts ? I left after 1 week... they lock everybody up, including their children, based on "suspicions".

Peru is good, many hot girls, economy is booming- in Lima check out Miraflores, Orantia del Mar, San Isidro - all coastal areas and very nice.
Expect to pay 400 bucks/mo for a good one bedroom apartment in those areas.
The food is amazing, you can hit the sierras (Huaraz), go north to caribbean like Mancora with awesome surfing or hit an amazing part of the Amazon in Iquitos, and of course Cusco with Macchu Pichu.

Colombia is decent, the drug war can make it tricky but the girls are hot. I lived in Bogota for 6 months and had a good time although it was the first time i saw people dead in the street (drug executions). Govt. is iffy.

Venezuela has the hottest girls of all and the andean town of Merida is sweet. You can live very well on 1k/mo. Govt. is iffy.

Chile and Argentina I found cold, depressing and much more expensive.

Ecuador is a good place to vacation to, but not to live.

Many people say Panama and Costa Rica, which I will eventually have to check out.

Mexico is not only cartels and drugs, there are many states where violence is less than any european or american city. I live in Queretaro, is the second more secure place to live in Mexico.

You wont be able to live here with 1000 dollars, 3000 dollars per month is a good salary, Mexico City is 2 hours from Queretaro so you are able to take advantage of the big city, specially the airport and fly to cancun, los cabos, etc for a really low price.

Queretaro is full of foreigners, there are a lot of americans, french, germans, etc. There are many IT companies from US, specially from Texas, there is a fly directly from Houston and Dallas to the local airport.

By the way the public university has a Idioms Faculty, I study the second semester of Russian there. The course consist in 5 hours peer week with a teacher and unlimited hours in the autoloearning center.

The cost is around 50 dollars each 6 months for university students, 100 dollars for any mexican and 300 dollars for foreigners. There are spanish classes, the course consist of 6 levels, each level of 6 months.

Peru, Argentina, Bolivia, Cayman Islands, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Dominica, Jamaica, Guyana, Chile, Panama, Mexico. Anywhere in there is fine. I wouldn't look anything but wise and tough in Columbia, Nicaragua, Honduras, Haiti and or Venezuela.

1000 a month is so 19xx's. It ain't gonna happen these days. Remember NAFTA? It caused some serious inflation. For that cash you would live on scraps. Unless you tan like a Spaniard you wouldn't be safe.

Try Miami, it's pretty close to the United States. With knowledge you can live here for 1k a month. It just depends on what you are willing to do without.

1000/mo will NOT enable you to live like a king anywhere that i'm aware of, even here in DR. just the fact that you're a foreigner and (i assume) you're not fluent in spanish you're going to get the fuckedup prices on everything from your rent, utilities, whores, food, taxi rides, etc. even after adapting and living there for some time the fucking ladrons dont let up on the hustle because they assume youre wealthy just for being there. you will go to restaurants and they will have 2 menus, one for locals and one they just made especially for you with nicer prices for them

Another thing about 3rdworld man, if you've never been its an adjustment. get used to walking lots more, eating a purer diet, dodging bikes and other vehicles constantly, little kids wanting to shine your shoes/rob you, petty theft, overt grand theft, home invasions, corrupt policia, people commonly not having change for you when you buy something, etc. If it weren't for the great weather, beautiful beaches, and smokin hot whores i wouldn't suggest living there... not even vacationing there... but if you're willing to learn the language and adapt, and ease your way in there it is very bearable. I would say you need a minimum of 1500-2000/mo to be moderately comfortable in the DR by american standards. I can get by on less, but for a newbie you need that, possibly more for the first year living there. remember you are 'daddy warbucks' to everyone there. use that perception to your advantage, stay safe, and have fun

hm I was living in south east asia for 6 months, nothing wrong what you write here happened to me...Maybe SE Asia is quite different than Carribeans...people mentiality and so on..catholic machos vs. calm buddhists/muslims/christians....

In Brazil now. Must see if i stay here longer than six months or go to Paraguay, Uruguay or Thailand for some time. Want to stay here though. But advise and tips are welcome where to stay after Brazil

I live in a small city, friendly people, no problems. I live in Bahia so a lot of dark woman If you go to tourist area there are more Gringos so you won't get that much contact with local people. If you stay out of the tourist places the girls attack you and want to have sex with you. Especially if you have blue eyes ;) Thailand is nice if you like prostitutes. Some good places in Bahia, Itacare, Porto Seguro. That are little more aimning at tourist but might be a good start with good internet. 1000 usd can be done, but not that much. A good cheap house/appartment will be about 500 reais = 225 euro, broadband internet 100 reais = 40 euro, electricity 75 reais a month, water about 60 reais a month. Eating at a kilo restaurant will cost you 8 - 16 reais 3,50 - 8 euro 06 liter skol beer = 4 reais. I know that foreigners are living here for 1000 - 1500 reais.

But they speak Portugese here, ypu will learn No need for a scooter, busses go everywhere.
