Anyway... Google - and all of their properties, for that matter - are doing away with anything that doesn't directly benefit Google.

Google is not a resource to find new information; its designed to narrow-cast you towards things you're already interested in an effort to get you to click on their advertisements or share personal information (mainly by signing up for more and more useless and unneccesary Google services).

Its no longer a proper search engine.

Google has become less and less useful over the last year. I do a search for a specific keyword and Google returns results for what it thinks is a synonym. I try again and exclude the unwanted synonym using a '-' and Google ignores it. sigh.

If you have quality content, build authority and target actual long tail keywords and not misspellings of long tail keywords then you're not affected.

Google is working toward getting rid of search engine spam, a good thing too. The focus now is on content that provides value. This is the way it should be.

My prediction is that next Google will address link spam. It's only a matter of time before sites with thousands of forum links get slapped down hard.

If you have quality content, a natural link profile, build authority and lay off the spammy sites, splog networks and focus on providing quality content to the end user then you won't have any significant issues, you should even see improvement in your rankings.

It's been like this forever.

It's still a valid point, newbies come into the Internet Marketing game and think that they can create thousands of autoblogs and the riches will flow in. Unfortunately this is not the case.

My traffic statistics as far as keyword results disagree.

But sweet picture regardless. Please, nobody target any long tail keywords. I won't mind the lack of competition. ;)

That's a crock of shit, backed up by fancy graphics.

First off, Google won't do shit about longtail keywords, there's plenty of them around and they're spelled correctly.

Second, even if Google SUGGESTS correct spelling, that doesn't keep the user from typing the whole query and hit enter. How many unsavvy users do you think look at the screen while typing? Right, they look at the keyboard.

So if I want to search for "plumbers in long island," google wants to intercept me and push me to use a shorter search? I tried it. Nothing was relevant until I got to spelling out long island and then it was right there in my results along with two others. I think Google Instant isn't about killing long tail, but about being helpful with the same features that are also built-in to my OS.

I'm not convinced.
