If you have quality content, build authority and target actual long tail keywords and not misspellings of long tail keywords then you're not affected.
Google is working toward getting rid of search engine spam, a good thing too. The focus now is on content that provides value. This is the way it should be.
My prediction is that next Google will address link spam. It's only a matter of time before sites with thousands of forum links get slapped down hard.
If you have quality content, a natural link profile, build authority and lay off the spammy sites, splog networks and focus on providing quality content to the end user then you won't have any significant issues, you should even see improvement in your rankings.
