Acid Reflux/GERD... Who has it, what do you take?

What an embarrassing disease... GERD. Could be worse I guess, but anyone have acid reflux/gerd? Just found out that my shitty company health insurance doesnt cover my Rx for Nexium, so I have two alternatives.

I've been taking this for a while, works pretty good. Still get some flareups and some discomfort in my right side of my upper chest (digestive track) and going for a endoscopy test next Thursday. I have two choices for alternatives, Protonix and Prilosec. I'm not familiar with either one, but always like to have some info before I go and talk to the doctor. Mainly, people who take the meds often know best.

GERD can also be misdiagnosed celiac, as in my wife's case. Stay away from gluten for a week and see what happens.

Or start eating more cheese. Cheese is high up the PH scale so it's in essence a base. base + acid will basically neutralize each other. |

Ive had experience with pariet, nexium, and I now take prescription losec (omeprazole). It's a third or less of the cost of nexium.

I would make sure you actually have GERD though and not a gall bladder problem. |

I've lost my voice for 4 full months because of Acid Reflux.. was on Nexium for 2 months or so, didn't help me.. out of the blue after 4 months my voice returns.. I'm missing a few tones in my voice now.. not something you can hear when I talk, but I cant go from all high to low tones in a stepless motion, then, in the middle, my voice stops working

I used to have acid reflux really, really bad. I had big bottles of TUMS by my bed always. Then my daughter went on a raw food diet and since we would go out to dinner once a week, I decided I would try it with her.

I did not go completely raw, but I pretty much knocked canned and boxed foods out of my life. What was interesting was that I noticed my acid reflux went away and it never returned. So, clean up your diet for a few months, it will fix itself. |

Diet is huge, also don't eat 2 or 3 hours before bed helps.

I take protonix off and on and it works well, zero side effects. |

		 I've had acid reflux lately.

I was prescribed omeprazole for a month, and then cimetidine for three months.

The generic Prilosec From rite aid works pretty good ... just remember to take some time off it , I remember reading somewhere that it keeps your bones from absorbing calcium or something and was a factor in bone mass loss

Strangely enough, lower your blood pressure and GERD symptoms will lessen. Also, cut back on refined sugar.

		 1. Check to see if your stomach contains the enzyme that 1/3 of people have (that fucks you up)

			2. Prilosec OTC 3. Tums (do not overlook tums, pure calcium.. works wonders) 4. Hot ginger ale 5. Eat less, smaller meals.. but more frequently 6. Sleep more in an upright position 7. Activated Charcoal Hope this helps!

Get company you work for or if sole company, set up Flexible spending account Will allow you to buy over-the-counter meds and deduct them. Tums doesn't work, the final solution is Misoprostol. Damn expensive & hard to get as Misoprostol is used with RU-486 for abortions. Does fix your stomach from bleeding. Taken it for over 15 years |
