It probably will sell.

I could see firms putting them in shops for customers as they are so cheap it does not matter if they break.

And for a lot of people who may just want one for the net, its probably good.

Its the sort of thing you may get to have outside were it could get broken.

I just shipped one to ArseWithClasses' mailing address in the hope that he'd use it smash your stupid cut and paste fingers.

It won't happen, but I can still dream...

My $99 HP Touchpad is by far the greatest gadget deal ever. A $500 tablet that was only released a month beforehand for under a hundred bucks?

This thing on the otherhand, seems like crap.

You'd be lucky now to find one on the secondhand market for about $200. Even at that price, I still think it's a good deal.

it amazing how many people miss the true benefit of this thing

this is a perfect dev test machine for android phone apps

you could deploy to this machine

and uat on a real android phone

a dozen developers could work on modules for the cost of a single "real" android phone.

It runs Android. I'm pretty sure you can't develop FOR Android on an actual Android device. I could be wrong, but I have never seen anything to suggest this is possible.

You can already buy these cheap Android tablets for under $100 at your nearest Walgreens, if anyone is really interested. They really even aren't worth that.

I still haven't gotten the whole tablet craze or the smart phone craze for that matter.

The smart phones are pretty big if it's to be useful in any way and it might be ok for a chick that has a purse but for guys they are just going to get broken in a pocket.

Tablets are also kinda meh.. sure you can get neat apps on them so maybe it could double as a GPS or something but who wants to carry around the damn thing?

If I was gonna do that, I'd just carry around a small notebook or one of those shitty net books, because at least they can run normal computer type aps.

The problem with that is this thing is gonna be very low end and will likely not run shit very well if at all. That's the problem with developing for android vs iOS because with Apple's you know the specs on every machine and what it will and wont do. With droid there are many shitty machines that simply won't run what the next one will run.

It's why developing for android sucks ass and it's normally a after thought to first developing for the iOS. I'm not really a big apple fanboy but if you are in the biz of mobile app or games development it's simply smarter to build for iOS first then if you have a decent seller port it to Android.

I don't believe in smartphones at all,

my solution to the iphone was to purchase an iPod touch, a decision I'm still very pleased with.

I also did not believe in tablets at all, being that I own a laptop, I thought it was total bullshit. But the $99 firesale for the touchpad got me, and I bought in as it was too cheap to pass up.

I must say, it has it's uses.. and it is definitely more portable and convenient than a laptop. If your laying in bed at night and have an idea, it's much nicer just to turn over and pick up your touchpad and check whatever out.. totally quick and useful. It's also good to shop on, and I like to have something that not all my work is on.

With that said, I would never ever spend $500 on a tablet, that would be utterly retarded.

I still could give a fuck about apps, a total waste of time for the most part. Be it for the touchpad, or the iphone.

Truth 100%. But who cares - marketers tell people they need them and sheep follow.
