:2cents Paul Markham's Evil Twin

First of all, I am not singling out Paul for ridicule but acknowledging that there are others in similar dilemma that are lashing out in the same directions.

i.e.; Old Ways = Good, New Digital Ways = Evil.

And now for the Evil Twin -- The Problem With the Internet: Consumers Want Culture for Nothing (TCTV)

This author, a self-admitted member of GenerationX, asserts in the video that Amazon and Google are destroying his ability to maintain his living standard. He says that his publishers are challenged to make enough profit in today's digital marketplace to pay him advance cheques to live on while he writes books. Furthermore, Amazon Kindle now distributes books digitally and has caused the sales of the bookstores to plummet.
His conclusions:
1.) The Internet is Evil because he can no longer compete.

2.) Amazon is Lucifer and is forcing Free Market ideals.

3.) He further asserts that free market ideals are extrinsic ideas to European culture and uses the French "culture tax" and the German price fixing of book prices as justifiable countermeasures to this disruptive technology and this invasive marketing to the status quo.
Translated -- my ship is sinking the Internet must die!

This is what you get by being a "late adapter" to new market trends.

Tubes and Amazon have something in common -- they offer the consumer a desired value that is in demand and have turned that commerce into a profitable business model.

There is a substantial difference -- Amazon pays a fairly negotiated price for their content whereas "pirate tube sites" depend on user uploaded content that is without royalties paid and licensed in most cases.

However, tube sites that are licensing content for use now as well as sponsor and content producer/licensee tube sites are here to stay -- deal with it and learn how to profit by it or move on ...

Barry. You're so funny.

When I first came and made my presence to online porn, I was told surfers didn't want my glossy magazine style porn. By a lot by people who couldn't produce anything decent. Telling me there bad porn was what the surfer wanted. They didn't last long and most have gone.

Then people were telling me online porn was the future of the porn business. Now people are telling me paysites have run their course and it's time to adapt. Usually to giving away more free porn to sell ads to people who will become obsolete as others put up their type of adult for free, in increasing numbers.

The numbers of people leaving are far above those joining. Newbies are unlikely to bring anything of worth to this industry.

People told me online made far more than offline ever did. Maybe for a few months as off line declined. Still doubt if online porn ever took more than offline retail. Those telling me how little offline took quoted the production companies accounts. Which has nothing to do with the real offline businesses revenue.

Yes E Books have damaged the old book model and made it harder for writers. But when 100s of people decide to give away 10,000s of new books each. Then Amazon will lose book sales. They have lots of things to sell, online porn has 3. Recorded porn, live porn and Dating. Dating makes sense to give it away for free, move away from Adult and get advertisers like E bay, Amazon, Coke, etc. Lot more money than from AFF.

However, tube sites that are licensing content for use now as well as sponsor and content producer/licensee tube sites are here to stay -- deal with it and learn how to profit by it or move on ...

Poppycock. Tubes with DMCA infringing content can be sued after the legal notices are served. But it's expensive and few online have the balls to take that one on, still it can just come down for a few days. Then a mystery man in some hole will re-upload the scene so it's back up again. Paysite sales are falling, whether you're a one man band or Manwin. The fall in sales will eventually hit everyone. Just takes a bit of time.

Then who will provide the licensed content and will those sites keep feeding Tubes, so they can sell ads to dating companies?

How many Tubes can afford to license enough new content a day to keep the traffic happy. Will advertisers chip in for the cost of buying content. Or will the mystery men just increase?

Yes think long term and think hard. AND don't assume the model you ride today will be the same one you ride this time next year.

And never assume in a market that's changing fast, the next move might not just be the same one Pimproll did. Big Sponsors turning a big site into a free Tube.

There's one think the "Freemium" business model has to have to survive. Buyers and without that, free doesn't work.

Never forget, adult is stuck in it's own little corner. It's pot of advertisers are limited. Itself and maybe betting. If betting will advertise in adult sites and it works. Then no worries. If not.

E-book -- LOL

This sounds like you are at the buggy whip manufacturer's convention in 1911

I'm not the one complaining that business is bad and my industry is cannibalizing itself ...

Gutenberg's printing press was a blind side to porno painters in that day I imagine but the strong survived that one.

Got bad news for you -- you will never be the Messiah of Porn ...

"I've been giving away my books ever since my first novel came out, and boy has it ever made me a bunch of money.

When my first novel, Down and Out in the Magic Kingdom, was published by Tor Books in January 2003, I also put the entire electronic text of the novel on the Internet under a Creative Commons License that encouraged my readers to copy it far and wide. Within a day, there were 30,000 downloads from my site (and those downloaders were in turn free to make more copies). Three years and six printings later, more than 700,000 copies of the book have been downloaded from my site. The book's been translated into more languages than I can keep track of, key concepts from it have been adopted for software projects and there are two competing fan audio adaptations online.

Most people who download the book don't end up buying it, but they wouldn?t have bought it in any event, so I haven?t lost any sales, I?ve just won an audience. A tiny minority of downloaders treat the free e-book as a substitute for the printed book--those are the lost sales. But a much larger minority treat the e-book as an enticement to buy the printed book. They're gained sales. As long as gained sales outnumber lost sales, I'm ahead of the game. After all, distributing nearly a million copies of my book has cost me nothing."

A publishing industry that is being transformed by all things digital could learn some things from Paulo Coelho, the 64-year-old Brazilian novelist. Years ago he upended conventional wisdom in the book business by pirating his own work, making it available online in countries where it was not easily found, using the argument that ideas should be disseminated free. More recently he has proved that authors can successfully build their audiences by reaching out to readers directly through social media. He ignites conversations about his work by discussing it with his fans while he is writing.

That philosophy has helped him sell tens of millions of books, most prominently ?The Alchemist,? an allegorical novel that has been on the New York Times best-seller list for 194 weeks and is still a regular fixture in paperback on the front tables of bookstores.

And of course, Seth Godin gives away the whole of The Idea Virus too http://www.sethgodin.com/ideavirus/

damien, no one has ever been able to replicate what he did with that model. you notice cory is less enthusiastic about that model of promotion because outside of his very unique case it has been a big fail. it just doesn't work for 99.9999% of authors. please stop using that model.

Can't see anything in there that gives any indication to how much money they take. Just that they have a lot of videos. They acquire for free on a "split revenue" basis.

These stats are not the best in the world. But they give you an indication of the future. Every time another big Tube opens it takes a chunk of traffic. And traffic growth isn't keeping pace any longer with the growth in places to get it for free.

Now you can keep up with the talk, but I would seriously be thinking about what you're going to be doing in a few years. Because the bread has more people to feed every day and the loaf's not getting bigger.

The king has more peasants to feed and he's not getting more food, just giving everyone a smaller share.

Can anyone show a major porn site that's turning these trends around?

1.) Alexa figures are horseshit -- we all should know why ...

2.) I can say that our sales have grown in double digits the past 1 and 1/2 years -- our profits and our payments made to our ACWM Affiliates have shown similar gains.

3.) I would also say this this is not in fair comparison to porn membership sites as the business models are dissimilar.

The stats show all people need to see. If I'm a loser, what does that make you?

Your job is driving traffic and at driving traffic to your own site you failed miserably. You either gave up because the site never converted or you're shit at driving traffic.

The proof of my content was seen on shelves around the world. And if you look around on lots of tours. Not webmasters opinions on boards. No one stays in business 34 years, employs people and has a large studio. Without making money. Working from your bedroom you haven't figured that out yet. And don't say it's a lie. Squealer, another loser, was flaming me and said I had staff and a few of them and a studio and office.

Live with it, you're not very good and not going to get better.

So the stats proved my point, you're shit at your job.

Why would I want to drive non-interracial lesbian traffic to an interracial lesbian site? To get a higher alexa rank? You can't even grasp that basic concept, yet you try and advise others on any aspect of online marketing? You're a fucking joke, now go have a cup of cocoa and think about how stupid you've been for the last 10 years.

Just a quick indication. want to show better stats, feel free to.

2.) I can say that our sales have grown in double digits the past 1 and 1/2 years -- our profits and our payments made to our ACWM Affiliates have shown similar gains.
Proof please. Maybe it's true, maybe it's bs to get affiliates. No one knows.

3.) I would also say this this is not in fair comparison to porn membership sites as the business models are dissimilar.
People are jumping ship fast. They're complaining about programs closing and not getting paid, a lot more than ever. Maybe you are doing well and one of a few.

The trend is obvious for most. In October 2012 we will know more, we can look back a year and get a picture of 2012.

Until we do an IPO like someone else did (I wont mention names) we won't be filing a public prospectus for you to Google ...

Why don't you check us in Alexa

10/12/2012 well then "the future is uncertain and the end is always near."

Most people who download the book don't end up buying it, but they wouldn’t have bought it in any event, so I haven’t lost any sales, I’ve just won an audience. A tiny minority of downloaders treat the free e-book as a substitute for the printed book--those are the lost sales. But a much larger minority treat the e-book as an enticement to buy the printed book. They're gained sales. As long as gained sales outnumber lost sales, I'm ahead of the game.

That philosophy has helped him sell tens of millions of books, most prominently “The Alchemist,” an allegorical novel that has been on the New York Times best-seller list for 194 weeks and is still a regular fixture in paperback on the front tables of bookstores.

Here you go Jel, I'll run through with you what one of these emails are and how to get them.

It must look strange to you, but I'll make it clear here for you.

It's an Email confirming a JOIN , which you get when someone wants to join your site.

Still with me?

Good. Now I'll explain how you get one to your site.

Firstly you have to go to CCBILL, they are people that process credit cards, incredible isn't it? And turn on the notification, big word so go look it up in a dictionary, that you want to receive an email for a join to show some twat what one looks like. Remember to turn it off or it will fill your free host email so fast, well not in your case so forget that bit.

Then you get one every time someone joins.

It's a bit complicated, for you as you're not very bright, but I'm sure you'll get it in the end. Like you'll get a join email in the end.

Love you.

There's only ome direction to go.

Put up audited accounts of the publicly owned porn businesses. Otherwise it's all speculation.

I know one United Kingdom-based adult retailer, with over 140 high street stores in the UK. In 2007-2008, had an annual turnover of Ł117.3 million.

That's one chain doing close to $200 million 2007-2008.

$1,448,000 per store. Adult based stores would mark up 300% on average. On DVD they bought in for $6 and sold out at $60 to $70.I know that as I sold to them. Good thing was the volume they once bought in.

Now show comparable from an online porn company. I won't make it tough and say an online UK based porn company. That would be nasty.

Do you seriously think Manwin do that and Fabian picked it up, allegedly, for $100 million?

Yes your problem will be finding online porn companies who have accounts. No problem getting a picture of the wealth of offline.

Click the link to his site and look at these stats and it's clear what the problem is. He knows he's failed and can't just live with being a failure. Sad really and if he wasn't so nasty I would feel sorry for him.

If it were a weekday he might have an excuse, more final demand in the post.

When I first moved to California in 1989, I was stunned that I had to pay for TV. Years later I'm paying $80 a month so we can watch the same four or five channels. (Different channels than what I watched as a kid, but the truth is we always watch the same channels.)

The Internet was more of the same. It was a way for the people to broadcast their message. We didn't need to have a radio station or a TV studio, all we needed was to design a web page and have something to say. I remember being stunned watching a counter telling me how many people visited my webpage. Who knew that so many people were interested in what I had to say?

The cat is out of the bag and it's not going back in.

I think it's important to tell affiliates this, also to let them know that cookies are set to maximum as they are in our program & finally whether ccbill fees are paid from the sale before or after affiliates, we wouldn't want to con affiliates.... These things are all important

So in fact you know fuck all, as usual. In your case it's ok as you are obviously a bit of a slow cunt, but at heart a nice bloke, though next time think before typing

Dont start calling me a cunt! I never said you had a leak on the tour! I was joking about you showing you have "leak free tours" on your affiliate site & yet Lady DamJ says I shouldn't waste my time telling people about leakfree tours.... It was a joke & not directed to you, you slow wanker!

Bless Gary, it's because I told him not to use "leak free tour " as the main selling point of his sites. Obviously, he should use good selling points, like genuine amateur content. Shot by amateurs, edited by amateurs. That would be better than the fact his tour is leak free because that's a very basic thing every site should have.

Gary couldn't grasp this very basic point because he is very stupid.

Gary. I wasn't nitpicking your site. I was explaining the very basic English mistakes you made because you genuinely are that stupid and to try and explain that you should use your USPs to market your site, not just shit everyone else offers

I was trying to help, but you are so painfully simple that you couldn't comprehend what I was saying.
