How much TGP traffic is enough?

Hi guys,

I realize this is a quite vague question but recently I've decided to play around with traffic 'brokering' services.

I've run a few campaigns around my niche keywords, erotica, babes and teens for our new site melina.com with little success I must admit.

Sure, we can get thousands of visitors per hours/days if we pay the right price, but to me, it's mostly unqualified traffic making the ROI quite low, at least, on my first experience.

So, as a general rule of thumb, how much traffic is really needed in you guys experience to actually generate sales. 10k per day? 100k? 500k? ;)

Again, I understand this relates directly to the actual offer but any shared experience will help me understand if I should pursue in that direction or rather invest in 'traditional' Ads marketing.

Cheers!

Sending TGP traffic straight to a paysite might be not the best way. Since it's mostly heavy skimmed traffic. You could do great with a perfect landingspage.
But you can test some sources, and dump the sources that are not converting for you. Don't have to much hope, to get a viable source coming from TGP traffic.

You'd for sure better if you go "traditional".

It's depends, from where is traffic coming, what kind of thumb they are click before cuming to your site, what is their bounce rate on tgp and your site, etc...

erotica, babes and teens - very high competition keywords.

Try derivative keywords that have less competition. Attract traffic from search engines, rather than highly skimmed bought traffic. Bought traffic sent to a tgp that sends direct to paysites wont do very well unless you are really clever about how to use it.

Yep, traffic is filtered by niche, geoloc and hours of the day.

@everyone: Thanks for your inputs. I guess that confirm the experience I had with TGP traffic in regards to our business type.

Cheers.

Traffic is source is really wat matters... Even if u get 10 times more the traffic... it might add no value... Let me know if u want traffic from sources which really pay well. Like search engines..

Traffic? What is this "traffic" you speak of? Is it a movie starring Catherine Zeta-Jones?

From TGP traffic to a paysite? Isn't that a tad optimist? Don't get me wrong, I'm all for optimism but we've brought about 40k visit in 10 days and we're far from reaching that volume.

Now even without being super efficient at funneling visitors to to our offer I would expected to have more that what we had in return but the results were pretty meager.

We also splitted our traffic on 3 niche, with 3 different landing pages, our home, some FHG, the subs page (yeek but we ought to try) to see what worked the best.

Here a few samples of our FHGs that we used as a landing page (sorry can't link yet)

fhg.melina.com/2/index.html

Cheers.

Keep in mind that anytime you buy "traffic" that you are not getting any kind of quality.

Yes, you can buy an actual HARD LINK on a REAL tgp like The Hun, AL4A, etc. and get good sales and make good money. But keep in mind that is with no guarantee of an actual number of hits from the hard link.

I used to sell hard links on Ampland for $6000 a month and had a line around the block trying to get them. Those links would send anywhere between 5,000 and 8,000 uniques a day. But it was REAL people who were actually interested in what the link had to offer and clicked on it of their own free will and curiosity.

THAT is the kind of TGP traffic that is gold. Anybody selling you X amount of "hits" is selling you people being redirected to you against their will. NOBODY can sell actual traffic unless they have a magic spell that puts people under hypnosis and has them go to your site. Nope...they are selling you pissed off surfers who did not intentionally go to your site. That is why the numbers are so low.

Buy a hard link on a real tgp and you will see the difference.

Not even close in sales that can be obtained from that traffic. Our tgp traffic from hard links was truly just as good or even better than search engine traffic.
And after trying out Traffic Junky's Manwin tube traffic...and trying out the Pornhub partnership...I can report that the Manwin tube traffic is horrible.

I make tons more sales from Twitter posts.

just because it doesn't work for you (promoting a micro niche paysite) doesn't mean it wont work for others. it obviously does.

Serious answer cause you are a cutie patooty Melina:

Buying "traffic" and sending it to a paysite is useless, as Robbie pointed out. Please take this from someone who runs 28 paysites, buys "traffic" and ads.

Ads: you're much better off either buying hardlinks, as Robbie suggested, or actual ads. Animated GIF-style ads, the kind you see on, yes, tube sites. You should have a few landing pages already made so you can test them out, maybe 3-5.

Having said all that: chances are you'll be disappointed with ad buying. I have been so far and here's why: while I see middling sales to the ad tour (clicks on banners and ads, traffic directly to that tour's Join page, etc) the numbers are pretty low (and we get a KILLER click-thru rate for our ads, just sayin').

But when you factor in the "footprint", the type-ins, etc, advertising is a great thing. The problem is it's difficult to accurately track that rising tide of interest in your site.

So for you I would actually do what Robbie only alluded to: focus more on social sites like Twitter and Facebook (but be careful with FB). BE "Melina" and build up your following that way.

Best of luck to you!

Nice try. But I know damn well that Claudia-Marie.Com sells like hotcakes and that anybody looking at her vids on Pornhub was SPECIFICALLY searching for big tit vids...which in the "old days" would mean "targeted traffic"

I've only done this since the mid 90's online...I think I've got a pretty good handle on how it works. But if that's not good enough for you, I've also had this conversation with a few other paysite owners who gave it a shot on Traffic Junky/Pornhub (incidentally, none of them have been doing this at the level I have for as long...but I digress), and not one of them reported good sales.

But of course, common sense would tell you that already. Unfortunately that seems to be in short supply these days with a lot of you.

The galleries look great. But as others have said, redirected surfers don't convert that well. Hardlinks and filtering is where it is at. When I say filtering, I mean taking a site, and funneling an *interested* surfer into a tour/gallery and then hitting them with a join page... no traffic leaks is key.

It appears your site is pictures only. If so your market is very limited. Most surfers want movies nowadays. your best bet is to find pic only tgps and buy text links from them.

By the way...I had one of my galleries for Claudia-Marie.Com run on The Hun today (sunday)
Ended up with 72,158 hits on the gallery itself. 8,943 hits to the tour. 214 join page hits. And 11 sales.

Not in this day and age of piracy and full length scenes and ripped members areas available for free everywhere. 1:1100 is not bad at all these days for running a gallery.

It just goes to show that if you have a good product and can get some good traffic to it, you can still make a few sales.

This is nothing compared to what we were getting just a few years ago.

I remember in 2007 when Boobster blogged Claudia Marie and sent a couple of thousand hits to the tour and made 37 sales that one day.

Wow. That's awesome. I just checked out the gallery and noticed that you wrote an intro. Do you find that adding a descriptive paragraph like that helps? I usually only put a title
Great intro, btw!

These are the kinds of numbers that are forcing me to re-adjust my expections. LOL 11 sales IS a damn fine number for a gallery posting, any of us would take it in a heartbeat.

But it saddens me every time you veterans wax poetic about past sales. It's like, I KNOW The Who rocked but I was too young to see them in 1971. LOL

That's the description that I write for each "episode" of Claudia-Marie.Com
When I make a gallery that is from a specific scene, I use the corresponding description from the scene. Our scenes all tell a "story" so I try to keep everything focused.

TGP traffic to a sale page won't convert, if at all maybe .000001%. TGP traffic is mostly first click or people that have a hard on for a specific picture set or video. taking them to a pay site will not convenience them to take their hand off their bird and pull out the credit card

Yeah, we were going to go to Epass...glad we didn't.
But we can set up bank wire for affiliates who can send enough sales to make it worthwhile.

Yeah that's Danny Blaq. We had met him a couple of years running at the AEE show. Saw that he had a production company back East and had a series of DVD's he put out. Super nice guy and always wanted to shoot with Claudia Marie. So finally I scheduled him for a shoot, had never bothered to search out pics of his cock. lol

It was a bit surprising when he got naked to say the least. But he did a good job and was good to work with. In retrospect, maybe would work better for a gangbang.

True, we only got photography on the site currently, but we do it well We have a bunch of HQ videos that we shot but their mostly 'bonuses' from the photo shooting we're making. We will probably focus on videos more on the future but even if I agree that videos sells prolly better than pictures, in our niche I'm not sure videos are really entertaining. I guess will see.

I agree, we should definitely improve that. I'm programming our Tour page than I'll work on some landings. Thanks for the comment.

Cool to have some numbers, at least I've got a general pointers on what to expect and go from there.

Cheers.
