Solid advice there and yeah in the end the amount of calories going in/out is what counts.

you will have to get pretty close to the actual cals burned #, it's the trade-off. dieting alone is easier counting calories than dieting + cardio, harder to figure out how many you burn in an hour of cardio.

Eric 06-14-2011 08:22 AM

Shey,

If you time is limited, I highly suggest you swap any cardio work you are doing for Interval Cardio training. By switching to intervals you will actually accomplish far more in less time, and interval cardio training will keep your body burning calories for up to 48 hours after you step off whatever machine you are using. It is fairly simple to do:

5 minute warm up at 50%
1 minute at 90%
2 minutes at 70%
1 minute at 90%
2 minutes at 70%
1 minute at 90%
2 minutes at 70%
1 minute at 90%
2 minutes at 70%
1 minute at 90%
2 minutes at 70%
5 minute cool down at 50%

you can start at 3 intervals and work your way up to the full 5. This will take you a total of 25 minutes and will shoot your caloric burn through the roof.

With this I agree with Dyna Mo, increase your fiber intake, swap your breads and pastas for whole wheat, but read the packages and make sure there aren't a bunch of hidden crap in there like HFCS. Many brands say whole wheat and then sneak shit like that in there. So read the labels. There are high fiber versions of whole wheat bread, whole wheat tortilla's, etc.

You have to decided whats more important beer or losing the ten lbs. Also before people can give you advice. Need some background to be effective. Age? Height? Weight? any medical issues? Show us what you put in your mouth say for 3 days? Then advice can be given, but it all comes down to is the ten pounds more important than the things that give you pleasure?
(I bet I just made Dyno Mo proud :)

Hehe, fair enough, I was asking more on a general basis but to get more specific, female, 34yo, 5'7", 155lbs, hypothyroidism but under control. I eat everything, from burgers to a bowl full of veggies, I am not watching what I eat at all just trying not to be a pig.

For now, the 10 pounds are top priority, just had a baby so been working on getting back in shape. Already lost 20 out of the 30 that I gained just by popping the baby out and starting to work out but as we all know the last 10 are the hardest. :Oh crap

Just go raw and stop eating sugar and processed food.... :-)

Exercise a bit too and stop watching TV.. the pounds will mewlt away.

Simple my ass hahaha I'm gonna need a cheat sheet to remember it but I will try it for sure. In three months I want to start doing more fun activities such as martial arts or outdoor sports but for now I need to build up my strength.

Too hard to follow for me, I tried it once and just can't do it. :(

digitalfantasies 06-14-2011 09:06 AM

no special diet.... just eat normal (healthy), drink lots of water every day and walk 1 hour a day (preferably power walking)...

this way you will loose the pounds in no time...

dyna mo 06-14-2011 09:06 AM

so what's looking like the easiest for you to follow?

kristin 06-14-2011 09:11 AM

50 diets.

I need help in the worst way... The first thing anyone will notice at the next show is how much weight I put on.. I can't believe it myself, it happened so fast I thought.... then I looked back at pics over the last two years and it was a slow decline.

I dont get fat like traditional people... I have typical webmaster body.. curved shoulders.. weak core and a ethopian belly. I look bloated...

It's overwhelming and embarrassing at the same time..

Does eating raw, fresh no breads and having one cheat day a week seem like an acceptable route?

Eating healthy is never cheap it seems.. its 9$ for a salad and 3 bucks for a 1/4 burger with the works. Is their such thing as cheap healthy eats?

Now that I live in Florida, I can't hide it behind clothes.. I never thought this day would come but its here and it came fast... It's all I think about..

This is going to be more of a mental challenge than just a physical one..

get a treadmill or hit the gym or walk 30 min a day and do some exercise to strengthen your core...I feel much better when I do that stuff or sure

On buying bread here is a tip. The keyword you are trying to find is 100%. Don't fall for only the words "whole wheat" or "all grain". They're allowed to say whole wheat even if only less than 1% of the ingredients is whole wheat, it's a simple marketing fact. 100% is what you need to find, and then check the ingredients and you'll see.

You just explained half of your problem. You eat out too much. Those nine dollar salads are a good way to trick all of the ladies at lunch into spending too much money trying to get "healthy" while they drizzle on their nasty salad dressing.

if any of y'all have not tried ezekiel bread, give it a whirl, it's fucking delicious! i make pb&j with it, simple peanut butter (no sugar added) and sugar-free jelly.

nspired by the Holy Scripture verse Ezekiel 4:9., "Take also unto thee Wheat, and Barley, and beans, and lentils, and millet, and Spelt, and put them in one vessel, and make bread of it..."

Ezekiel 4:9® Organic Sprouted Whole Grain Products are:

Flourless,
Organic,
Complete Protein,
and Sprouted Whole Grain

We discovered when these six grains and legumes are sprouted and combined, an amazing thing happens. A complete protein is created that closely parallels the protein found in milk and eggs. In fact, the protein quality is so high, that it is 84.3% as efficient as the highest recognized source of protein, containing all 9 essential amino acids. There are 18 amino acids present in this unique bread ? from all vegetable sources ? naturally balanced in nature.

Ezekiel 4:9® Bread, made from freshly sprouted organically grown grains, is naturally flavorful and bursting with nutrients. Rich in protein, vitamins, minerals and natural fiber with no added fat. Try it served warm to release its exceptionally rich nutty flavor.

Well, who knew GFY was full of diet connoisseurs hahaha. Joking aside, thanks a lot for the pieces of advice. I knew most of it but sometimes it helps to get opinions.

What I think I will do is to continue my workout routine but concentrate even more on cardio doing interval training. I will stop alcohol for 2 weeks as well as simple carbs or anything white (rice, bread, pasta). Will try and keep fats down to good fats, such as ones from avocado, nuts, fish, etc. Finally, increase water intake to keep hydrated and ward off being hungry. Check the scale and inches in two weeks and adjust the diet if I'm not getting the results I want.

dyna mo 06-14-2011 09:35 AM

for interval training, you can strap your rug rat to your back and do wind sprints! helluva workout right there!!!

I just pictured that and it's sadly so true :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

Read up at some of the advice on this thread. Nothing comes easy in life especially being in shape. The key is to do some sort of physical activity. Take advantage of being in a tropical weather and sweat it out by taking 20-30 minute walks at least 3 times a week. I've seen some of your pics, you're not so much overweight but rather out of shape. Once you get used to some physical activity, you can introduce more.

As for cheap food, if you eat out a lot, just be mindful of what you order. If you have to have fast food, get a grilled chicken sandwich and if you must have the bread, take out the top or bottom piece (it's my little cheat trick on myself). Start easy and work from there, I guarantee you that once you see a bit of results you will be more motivated to do more.

Most McDonald's salads have more fat in them than the quarter pounders.

Cutting back on portions, eating out and fast food is the easiest way to drop ten pounds.

I've never had the ezekiel bread, but I do make my own bread and use the grains I've steeped from making beer. I like getting mileage out of things like that where most people throw the grains away, compost them, or feed them to their dogs.

The only thing with making your own breads is you have to eat it, lol. There's no preservatives, so you can't wait too long.

96ukssob 06-14-2011 09:57 AM

Cardio is important, especially if you are older than 30.

Low carbs and mainly veggies. Eat low calorie WHEAT bread if you have a sandwich but no gain carbs after lunch. Keep on the protein and low fats and you will lose it quickly

I started cutting back on animal products about a year ago and weight dropped off immediately. I lost 20 lbs and have kept it off very easily. Instead of eating meat 3 times a day, I eat it *maybe* 3 times a week. Replaced milk with almond milk and stopped eating cheese. Animal products are full of fat & cholesterol, both of which are bad for you in abundance. 80% of my diet now is plant based. Veggies, fruits, nuts and whole grains. I still spring for a burger or pizza once in a while but for the most part, I stay away from the junk :thumbsup

flpartyduo2 06-14-2011 10:24 AM

Very simply, ONLY keep good foods in the house and ONLY eat out once per week. I admit I have NO will-power and hate working out. This is the only regimen that works for the long haul. Been doing it for 15 years and works like a charm!

Relatively new supplement called GABA. NOW makes a 500mg with b6 version.

Take two-three times a day, every few hours or so...
It has same triggers as chocolate...

You will eat half as much and be twice as full...I am on High BP meds. First my doc said huh? Then saw I had lost 50 lbs in 6 months, doc took a second look. BP is also coming way down...wife is helping to retrain me for eating habits...

You can probably lose the 10 in a week or two with no stress...You will just eat less.

HCG is a pain in the ass but it can help through plateau breaks and weight loss jumps that stay off.

Shey 06-14-2011 11:37 AM

I'm not against pills and short cuts but as of today (note date and time) I am not desperate enough to try them. I'll do diet, exercise and a shit ton of will power first and if that doesn't work then there will be another thread hahaha

Mike Dutch 06-14-2011 11:45 AM

no carb , no sugar for 3 weeks (or very little), then keep them low, works 100%

I've tried a few diets in the past and low carbs are usually the easiest to follow but wanted to know if anyone has had luck with any others. I don't have a problem with discipline, I just need more of a social diet. In other words I don't want to be the annoying person in a group saying I can't eat there or there because it doesn't fit my diet. Suggestions?

I've got the dolce diet that MMA fighters use to cut down and get to weight in 2 months.

I'll send you the link on FB. :)

It also kicks up testosterone, and makes testicles start working again after a cycle. :)
