Who here rides the bus?

Who here rides the bus?

Serious - not just for economic reasons too, many cities have bus lanes for faster travel in rush hour, no parking hassles, etc....

so fess up - who rides the bus?

or better yet - does anyone here take a train to work?

if it's within the metro area, I take subway whenever possible, and sometimes even train (depending where to go) otherwise I drive. Sometimes I drive to the zone where traffic starts to get crowded and take the subway from there

I have a driver, but whenever I'm back home I do get the metro since is the fastest way to go from home to office. Buses are great in some european countries, but for example in states they barely exist. I bet Canada has a superior transportation system.

When I used to live about 20km from Amsterdam, the bus was quicker than driving in, as it had it's own lane than never got congested.

I no longer have a car or a license. I'll hire/rent a car, or take the bus/subway. Much less stressful for me.

Something about a big city bus. I havnt been on one in many years and yet if I stop and think you can hear it, smell it, feel the inertia as you are walking and it is moving. Sticks with ya.

Do you still have to put like 35 cents (or more) in the coin deal by the driver. That was always fun trying to get the money in there while the inertia throws you the other way.

The coins would fall on this moving conveyer belt so the driver could see if you put a quarter and a dime. I swear you could throw anything as so many coins going in. 8 people getting on. But I never tested the driver to see. Always 35 cents.

Going 10 kilometers (6.2 miles) with the bus cost me about $5.
What's the point if I can go the same distance with my car and it will cost me less than $1 and the car is just outside the door....

But I work from home so I rarely need to go with car/bus.

Every area is very different.

For example in South Florida on degenerates take the bus, while in NYC everyone rides the subway.

Nope.

And I only found out last week how expensive it is too.

6 miles from the nearest town cost someone coming here £3.30 ($5.50) - more per mile that the complete running costs of a car.

Buses are the way to go in San Francisco.

Not so much in Southern California.

It depends on how your city is laid out and what transit alternatives are available

transit systems sucks balls here in windsor so I don't bother.. cabs are pretty cheap still so that helps. When i lived in the toronto area i'd take the bus and the train to get around, especially when i was in school, theres no reason to drive in the city. Subways rock, but the one in TO is pretty limited still unfortunately. They need to upgrade and add some new lines. At least so you can get to the airport..

When I have visited of Cities, like Downtown Chicago, we have taken the L which is not really a bus and we have been on buses in other states, but their system was nice and not a cluster fuck unlike Phoenix.
You couldn't pay me to get on a bus in Phoenix.....

I prefer to drive myself....

There are plenty here who ride the SHORT bus though. :D

Me, I haven't ridden on a bus in... must be going on 20 years now. Car or bike (road/mtn bike) or walk.

My vote: I work from home. My office is about a 5 second walk from my bedroom.
