FSC (Tries!) Explains New Porn Performer Health System

From Yahoo.com

LOS ANGELES ? Porn performers will soon be given a list of recommended health care providers for their frequent sexually transmitted disease testing, and results will be fed into a new industry database, according to a porn trade group.

Free Speech Coalition Executive Director Diane Duke said Thursday her group will oversee the database as part of a new program intended to fill the gap created by the closure of Adult Industry Medical Health Care Foundation earlier this month.

"We will be able to provide a list of recommended providers to our performers and ensure they will have sensitivity to the client base that we?d be bringing to these providers," Duke said at a news conference.
Known as the AIM clinic, the shuttered San Fernando Valley facility was a preferred medical provider for many performers in the multibillion-dollar porn industry, providing a discreet environment for frequent HIV and STD tests.
The Free Speech Coalition?s program to replace AIM, known as Adult Production Health and Safety Services, won?t open a new clinic.

"Unfortunately, the FSC is not in a position to set up a medical facility or a clinic," said board member Christian Mann, who is also a general manager at Evil Angel Video. "One of the things we learned from the closure of AIM is to avoid overreaching."
Within a week, Duke said, performers will be provided a list of labs and clinics where they can get testing and have their results fed into the database.

The password-protected database allows actors and producers to track whether performers have been diagnosed with gonorrhea, chlamydia or if they are HIV positive.

The database will tell users whether an actor is available to work or not, depending on whether they have any of the sexually transmitted infections the system tracks.

The system makes an exception for HIV-positive gay performers who still work in sex scenes while using condoms.
Former Los Angeles County STD program director Dr. Gary Richwald is serving the trade group as a consultant and says the group is now reaching out to medical providers with education to ensure sex performers aren?t treated with insensitivity and hostility for their work.

"It?s not what you say, but how you say it," Richwald said about a doctor?s responsibility to advise a performer of the risks they face in porn. "We also want to provide assurance that the tests being done (at recommended medical providers) are the best tests available."

The AIM clinic was forced to close permanently earlier this month following a series of controversies.
After porn actor Derrick Burts was diagnosed HIV-positive there in December, state and local officials said the clinic failed to cooperate with their investigation into other possible infections. Burts said that instead of getting information from the clinic on how to get follow-up care, he was told to avoid media, change his phone number and leave town.

The clinic was also accused of medical privacy violations after patient information appeared on a website in the run-up to its closure.

Kink.com founder and FSC board member Peter Acworth has led the database development and said his experience thwarting hackers on his site played into developing a secure environment for the performer?s information.

I guess the $150 test will be done before the shoot AND after the shoot. Sooner or later the performers will expect the producers to pay for it. wtf

What a joke. Seriously.

As everyone with a brain expected, and like almost everything else they touch, this is going to fail.

AVN Reports: Adult Industry Meets To Discuss Its Healthcare Future

STUDIO CITY, Calif.?Just over 50 members of the adult movie and internet community met today at the Sportsman's Lodge, site of many past such meetings, at the invitation of the Free Speech Coalition (FSC) to discuss the future of healthcare services for adult productions in the wake of the bankruptcy and subsequent closing of AIM Medical Associates, the industry's primary STI testing and treatment organization.

Link to AVN Article

Quote:
Mann stressed, and Duke agreed, that the fees charged for these services will be entirely transparent, and a sheet indicating how the collected monies will be spent was handed out at the meeting. Duke also noted that a yearly accounting of income and expenditures for the program would be produced and available for any of the program's members to see.
Quote:
One thing that Duke stressed over and over is that the program "will grow and change because of you," and that it is "not going to be perfect coming out of the gate." She said that FSC is still in the process of vetting clinics to perform the required services, and in answer to a question from the audience, assured the audience that performers will be able to move easily from one testing center to another with no interruption in their ability to work. One of the criteria for selecting clinics for the program, she said, was their willingness to charge approximately the same prices for tests that performers had paid to AIM.

This program doesn't seem to be as bad as you are making it out to be. I like the transparency, willingness to improve, increased privacy, national scope and matching of AIM's pricing.

It doesn't include a data base...or paying a bunch of people's salaries at FSC...but you can get an HIV test at Walgreens drug store for $59

Point is that all these companies (AIM when they were in business) and even TalentTesting now overcharge for this. And now FSC wants to charge more...a lot more?

It's $250 PER MONTH for Producers that are not FSC members. $150 per month if you are a member.

Have fun with that.

So in a nutshell, they will set up a secure database, you will have the option of several member clinics, the fees charged for these services will be entirely transparent. You will have the choice of using them or not? What's wrong with that ? If you dont like it, then use one of the other service providers

There was one way you could have stolen the thunder from any other service out there, and that was to make your service CHEAPER. That's it. And you blew it. You actually made it more expensive.

During a time when money couldn't be tighter for everyone in the industry, the FSC wants everyone to pay MORE for the same service they can get cheaper somewhere else.

If a "secure database" is your only selling point, you're a little late. Everyone's information was already given out.

Who said the cost to performers is $150?

The news release said they were going to try and match AIM's pricing.

Rob no disrespect to you, but my gripe and disagreement is with FSC and the bullshit agenda that they are "trying" to push on the adult industry is a strait insult.

They want all of this money, annual fees, monthly producer fees and all that they are going to do is point you to an adult friendly clinic (because they don't have one) and put all of the talents information into a data base and make bank.

I already can get tested and get access to a talent data base for $110 per test with out my performers paying a $50 annually and me paying $250 per month producer fees for access to talents tests online.

Now RedRob, I do understand that you get paid for giving us this informaition and I do not hold any of this against you. You seem like a goot guy, but with the numbers I, and others have posted here what makes more sense to you?

FSC's bullshit, completely laughable idea of testing in the future? Or

Talent Testing which is already in place for $110 per test, with No $50 Annual talent fees and no $250 per month producers fees?

How can FSC be this dumb!! I truly believe that they have no idea that talent testing exists. Im thinking that FSC thinks that there is no other game in town and feels they can charge what they want.

What pissed me off the most is not the price but the intentions of the prices per test and all of the monthly producers dues and annual dues attached to it.

I do know one thing and that is when I shoot anal, I use lube

To FSC: Since I do see that you are trying to take advantage of a situation that you really "think" you have control of, I will be contacting every agent and every producer I know and will be informing them about this extortion plot you you guys are trying to do to the adult industry. Then we as producers of the adult industry will accept tests from "Talent Testing" ONLY!!

Not worried one bit: Name one victory FSC has ever had?? This one wont be the 1st.

Well they disclosed it to everyone behind closed doors in the meeting. The press conferences were done after the meeting where all prices and fees were left out.

Dave, the FSC does not want to listen to a full time working LA producer like you. IMHO, this is a huge mistake on their behalf.

You are right. FSC did well with COPPA. I will give credit where credit is due. Job well done.

Unfortunately, everything else has been an failure. And it gives me no joy to say that, but it is what it is.

COPPA = WIN
2257 = FAIL
.XXX = FAIL
Piracy Protection Racket = FAILING
STD / HIV Testing = About To Fail

And where was the FSC when PWL started releasing all of the talent information? What good is having lawyers involved if you can't take down a single abusive website? Instead, they sat back and plotted a way to make money after AIMS demise, offering a "secure" database. And while it may not have been premeditated, it was certainly convenient.

At the very least, the FSC should have had that site taken offline if for no other reason that to protect paying FSC members. Did they even try?

You've woken up naked in Hong Kong with two trannies in your bed and not a condom in sight?

I hate when that happens.

On another note, To Redrob's defense, I don't think he had any idea what FSC was planning on charging the adult biz.

Hong Kong is very genteel compared to Bangkok.

I deny ever visiting Soi Cowboy or Nana Plaza in Bangkok. <No pics, so it didn't happen.>

However, I will say that if they are tall, good looking, fair skinned and hot as hell, they are probably trannies.

If you've been to Bangkok, be sure to catch Hangover 2.

Well at least someone tried to do something. I read recently that LA County is looking into required condom use for all adult production or something like that the other day and it was up for a vote.
