No Guns Signs

How much business do places with the no guns sign lose? (The one with a picture of a gun with a huge red diagonal line across it, like a huge no smoking sign)

I guess it depends on the area, but I know that I tend to avoid them without even knowing I'm doing it. It's just a way to dodge liability and probably doesn't do much more than piss people off.

I'd rather do business or trade with good people who are not slime balls.

Do you think it makes some other people feel safer, and more likely to go to those businesses, though? A no guns sign? People ARE pretty stupid and I could see that happening, bad as things are in Amerikka these days

The only place where that stops me is places where it is actually illegal to carry one. A school, federal or state building, airport terminal, or a building with metal detectors.

I would AVOID a place that brags it allows guns. In my state they passed a "guns in bars" bills. Now it's up to the brs to alow or not allow guns. Well bars that have "no guns allowed" signs would get my business. Last place I want to be is in a bar where some inbred renecks are getting drunk and carrying.

I don't know why anyone running a business would post any kind of political stuff in their windows. Regardless of what position you take you are going to piss off someone which could cost you customers.

If you piss the wrong person off it could end up hurting you badly business wise or they could go into a rage and attack you.

Case in point. The town I grew up in was a small town that was mainly a logging town. When I was a teenager the lawsuits started over the spotted owl which shut down a lot of logging. Most people in town were very much against any kind of spotted owl conservation. One bar owner put a sign in his window that simply said "The Owls Were Here First." Within a few months he was under investigation and eventually had his liquor license put on hold. He was told by a few different city council members they would fight to their dying breath to revoke his liquor license. The guy ended up selling the bar, but at about half what it was probably worth all because he put a sign in his window.

The last thing I would do, is tell someone that they cant exercise their constitutional rights in my business. Or get into any sort of political or religious debate or display that stuff. Like you said, you piss people off with that no matter what.

How many places (other than gun stores) brag that you can bring guns inside? Not having a sign that says they are not allowed is not the same as bragging that they are allowed.

I'm not a slave to fear, they dont have guns there. I'm afraid of guns. I dont even own one, and have said that a few times before on here.

I just think that if you want to carry a gun and you're legaly allowed to own a gun, well hey go for it.

Last time i went to the states i saw one of those signs at the customs office and thought, we're not in kansas anymore. the idea that the guy i might be mouthing off to for cutting me off in traffic might have a handgun worries me.

Don't worry. Assuring the theives/rapists/murderers that you are unarmed ensures their comfort.

Thats what is so wonderful about states that offer a concealed weapon permit. Assume that everyone is armed, and do be mouthing off to people in traffic. Makes society a more pleasant place

Although the people with a concealed weapon permit tend to be much more calm and would overlook what you're doing anyway unless you're posing a threat to them that they could not just walk away from.

Well if everyone is armed then i doubt it would stop people from doing things like mouthing off but it also allows people to be total assholes and get away with it because 'you never know if he has a gun'...(unless of course you have one too, then its cockfight time)..

That is all there is keeping me from knocking stores over ... it's such a huge payoff and only 5-15 years for the $200 ... But those darned signs are ruining it
