make sure to set your refresh rate to at least 85Hz.

i've used my 19" CRT for 2 years now, and never got a headache from it

Could be the refresh rate like lane said... If not maybe get yourself an anti-glare screen.

Try playing with the levels on your lcd, or lighting in the room

I found the CRT display was really hard on my eyes, especially the reflection of the room lighting on the glass screen of the monitor

Good luck

This is usually a common problem associated with lighting.

If you are using the screen with natural daylight make sure there is no reflection from windows (the big holes in the wall filled with glass, not the one from mr gates )

If you are using artificial light try not to use the centre light in the middle of the ceiling. Try to use uplighters that will direct the light away from the area you are working.

Trust me. In my day job I am a lighting engineer

ok I did a little reading and refresh rate isn't an issue with LCD from what I've seen. Only with CRT's.

This is a 20.1" LCD.

After using it a little bit thought it seems to be a lot better. The first 10 minutes took getting used to for sure.

Sniff, Sniff, My 19 inch monitor went out on me a month ago

And now, my backup 15 inch is about to go out too, so I have to switch to my 14.1 vewable laptop. :-(

I never had problems except when I was tired, thenit was just too much to look at

What monitor is this?

I have 19" LCD Samsung Synchmaster and its awesome... no strain at all.

This monitor had some calibration software that allowed me to set the lighting environment. Perhaps yours does as well.

I know how you feel, when i got my 19inch i felt dizzy at first, all that space but you do get used to it after a couple of days, plus the refresh rate has to be high. i am at 1280x1024 at around 80 hz horizontal and 75 vertical
all the best and flat rocks!

Someone here posted a link to a deal from GotApex.com, apparently 15% off certain Dell monitors. That gave me $150 off the normal $999 price.

It may be time for computer glasses! I was getting headaches all the time and Advil just wasn?t cutting it. Saw an Ophthalmologist, my eyes are good, but when he heard that I work on a computer 12 hours a day, a prescription was given. The glasses seem to relieve the eye stress but his suggestion of doing eye exercises (every half an hour ?stare? at a far point for a couple of minutes) made the headaches go away.

Lighting, as mentioned, is very important and refresh rate. I don?t have a LCD monitor but with my laptop I tilt it a little forward?seems to helps.

Err its a LCD? I don't know much about LCD's really.. but if its a CRT with those refresh rates -- that would make me sick for sure.

CNet 95% recommended
http://computers.cnet.com/hardware/0...-20025054.html

The monitor gives you the viewing area of a 21- inch CRT display and offers picture-in-picture capability with analog, digital, S-video and composite inputs.

I mentioned earlier that I read the refresh rates aren't a factor for LCD's. So this doesn't apply if that's correct, unless you know something I don't.

Yep. Got a 19" NEC LCD. I made it for about 3 days before I took it back.

The resolution was just too intense, I prefer 1024 x 768 and as well the 60hz flicker from the backlight was murder.

You can pick up a 20' LCD Dell 2000FP for around $850 on ebay. I have it and its great, run 1600X1200 like my 21 CRT at home.

Brujah,

Definitely. It will go away (does for me) after getting used to it though.

Just tought it out, in a couple days nothing will seem out of normal.

Just moving from a 17" to 19" effected me a little.

I bet you also get motion sickness when reading in a car right? ;)

If so I bet they are related somehow.. I do as well.

yup you'll get that for 3-5 days when switching from CRT -> LCD. BUt don't worry, in the long run your eyes will be healthier. LCDs emit 0 radiation.

Thats good stuff... I want to get like 10 of them .

I thought you said you had a CRT... I don't really know about LCD refresh rates, I'm sure its not the same as CRT's on your eyes. But I guarantee you if I had to look at a _CRT_ monitor that was less than 85hz for more than 20 minutes - it would be sitting on the curb within 30.

I don't but you MUST stay a arm's length from any monitor and take a 5 min break every hour. Period.

If not, your brain slowly nukes. But that may be good for adult BBS...

damn! after reading these posts i gotta get me a LCD screen.

Im positive my 'panda-eyes' are due to staring at a shitty 15 inch monitor for 10 hours a fucking day........

seriously tho' i remember my girl tellin me that my eyes were soooo fucking dark, this was about 6 years ago - the exact same time i started abusing my eyeballs with a computer monitor for long periods...

They've been darker than darth vaders crack ever since..

coincidence???

i reckon not.

Okay I finally got one of those bad boys and man it's fucking huge. My video card supports the DVI and D-Sub links but the install instructions say not to use both at the same time. May I ask which on I should use? The instructions give you no indication on which to choose. Also, what should I move the refresh rate too?
