Granny cuts off country's internet
A GRANNY wielding a spade cut off the internet to an entire country while scavenging for copper.
Georgian police arrested the 75-year-old who single-handedly severed web connections to neighbouring Armenia with her shovel. The elderly woman ? dubbed the 'spade hacker' ? had been digging for scrap metal in the village of Ksani when she struck a fibre-optic cable running between the two nations. The cable serves both countries as well as Azerbaijan ? all three internet providers in Armenia were crippled for hours and services in all three countries were affected. Georgian interior ministry spokesman Zura Gvenetadze said: "She found the cable while collecting scrap metal and cut it with a view to stealing it." She faces up to three years in prison if convicted of damaging property in the impoverished ex-Soviet state. But because of her age the authorities released her pending further enquiries.
