.XXX is a non issue

"Porn site owners won?t have to relinquish their .com or other URLs, and .xxx domains won?t be mandatory for sites with adult content."

Says it all.

A group of us should petition for a .adu extension just to compete with (and further dilute) this .xxx bullshit. We can state that "the industry" prefers .adu, and go from there.

and you trust the people that are saying that ? the point of concern is that somewhere down the line, they are going to change their words in something along the line of "in todays climate with blahblah, and blahblah, we find it oppurtune, and right now, the blahblah, time is right , to move ALL porn sites to .xxx"

today is today .. just got their approval .. tomorrow is a different story .. one year from now ? are they still going to be saying the same thing ? nobody knows! but those are the fears

There is no reason to change it in future. Furthermore it's technically and legally impossible.

It's like to force all european owners of .com domains to move their sites into .eu zone. Sounds stupid, right?

how is it "legally" impossible ? laws are there to be changed ... if right now they could not force you to do so .. who says they are not going to get some new law making it illegal to have porn on .com ? sounds stupid , right ? but who says they wont do that ? if enough people support a ban of porn on .com, who says it wont happen ?

nobody can guarantee that

Can you imagine the nightmare of all other porn. tld's being forced to move to .xxx, of course your best domains will be taken by someone else who got in .xxx earlier or the regisrar, the only people who win in the end are the lawyers who will be handling the massive influx of lawsuits of .com owners trying to get their .xxx versions back from other people.

It would be funny if there was a bunch of other adult domain extensions not by ICM. Who's going to buy .xxx for $70-100 when you could buy .adu,.porn,.sex etc for the same price as .com domains.

If governments and ICANN really gave a shit about kids there would be an .kids tld.

The tld would be really cheap so that non-profits could create content specifically for kids, and all content would be kid friendly. So why is nobody doing it?

It's been proposed, but gone nowhere due to the complicated issues involved.

Who constitutes a "kid", and even more daunting, what content is suitable for a "kid", since standards varies widely throughout the world - who decides what's suitable, who enforces the standards, etc ...

At the global level, .KIDS is far more difficult to implement than .XXX (even that's not a sure thing yet despite the recent vote and could be further delayed), and hence some countries, including the United States, have instead implemented .KIDS at the country level ... for example, there's a .KIDS.US 2nd level ccTLD - http://www.cms.kids.us/forgrownups.html

Easily. When you bought the domain, did you see "can't be used for adult sites" in the TOS?

Of course there's a reason to change it. To line ICM's pockets. It's already going to be $60 fee to registrars to register a .xxx that technically costs ~$0.50. Talk about margins!

Why not try to force everyone into it?

That is one of the BEST ways to dilute this obnoxious new extension.

sounds like you're a supporter of .xxx by some of the posts i've read..

a 'seperate' internet for kids is ideal, sites would have to be approved and it would be lucrative for those in that industry.
