about viral videos ... once the video is revealed to be a hoax how to they connect it to the movie they are promoting? do they just let articles like this to make the connection for everyone?

they say in the article that they *hope* media outlets pick up the video. i would think that's the connection. the thinkmodo crew has a knack for generating viral vids, they use that knack to get it spread around and then connections to media outlets for picking up/creating that story.

you never read what i wrote. after the video goes viral how to they tie it in afterwards to the movie they were trying to promote?

chris explained it anyway ... a follow up video it seems like. but the traffic didn't follow to see the trailer.

hey, i'm just conversing and participating in the conversation. i read what you wrote. if i didn't read it as you wrote it, perhaps you should write it better next time. or not even bring it up if you don't want people to participate in discussing the topic.

besides, i did answer, according to the article, after the video goes viral it is tied in to the movie by media outlets covering the viral video.

this article explains my view perfectly-

Quote:
The strategy for Thinkmodo is to make videos that viewers will think are clever and authentic without overtly pushing or mentioning a product, Mr. Percelay said.

"We're pushing the engagement of an idea which leads you then to the product," he said.
Quote:
the NY Times wrote an entire article about it, so did THR.
from wednesday:

He makes a good point and I agree with that, but they're going about this entirely wrong. I didn't get "lead to any product" at all. This is exactly the lazy marketing he's talking about! No one knows the video has to do with anything until, oh right, you read a huge article telling you EXACTLY that.

They don't need to see the trailer, main video has been seen 1.5M, persist people will do a little bit more search for this video and they will find out it's just a commercial for movie called "Limitless"

Next step search "Limitless Trailer" on Youtube

yah but only 40,000 made it to the second video and like the guy in dyna mo's post said, if you have to rely on media outlets to reveal it was a viral video it was kind of a fail.

i'm not entirely convinced the 2nd vid was a planned part of the campaign. it could of been released as a result of the ad agency realizing the main vid is too subtle/not working.

i was just reading about their previous campaigns and they had to rely on the media to expose those virals as well. from interviews it seems like they are good at coming up with the initial virals but clueless about the rest of the campaign let alone metrics.

they come from a comedy not marketing background i think.
