I'm not writing 15 pages to explain why, but just go with LINUX. Trust me.

Linux. Windows-servers go down 5 times/day on average.

Linux hands down. Maybe Windows if you're coding in ASP.NET. But even with ASP, you probably want to go with Linux.

Unless you absolutely must use Windows for something, go with linux. Always go with Linux if you can.

If security, performance and reliability are important then Linux/Unix is almost always the best choice.

Linux.
Major websites are running under Linux. See netcraft.com.
I never had a server running Windows.
Hosters have Windows servers for a few people developing ASP/.NET or 'cause they have some benneficts with MS.

you really must be pompous lol. do you think because in adult all scripts are written for a unix based platform that this is what happens all the time?

Most mainstream companies with 50-100+ employees host there own website. A large percentage of those, I would say in the 99% range. Host it on a windows server. And they do not go down 4 times a day like someone else mentioned. A bunch of know-it-all's that know little to nothing on here about technology.

The main reason to use Linux hosting for adult is because all of the scripts that you can purchase are made to run on PHP or a Unix based platform. You can still run these on windows because you can install apache+php on windows now. But it is not the standard and it is not highly recommended.

Agreed, to go further in detail most people use linux because scripts are free, but this in fact is the reason why most servers get hacked. I prefer linux to run my site because its just simple html maybe limited php here and there, however those who think windows goes down more then linux on a server level has no idea what they are talking about. Enterprise grade companys I would say 90% of the time run windows over linux. I would say that Linux/Unix boxes get hacked 82-85% more then windows boxes do. Also when paying top dollar for scripts or having a real programer write scripts you have much more stability then you do with all these freebie scripts.

Any Unix-like platform is preferred, definitely try to stay away from Windows. The open source tools most employed by software such as tube sites are designed, written, and optimized for Unix/Linux. We've seen cases of people kludging FFMpeg on Windows and it is never an elegant solution.

HIt me directly if you have any further questions

Linux is faster, more stable, and more secure, and with Cpanel easier to use.

That doesn't necessarily mean what you think it does. Even if it is true which I highly doubt. For example not too long ago most corporate intranets still relied in great part on IE6 as the standard browser. That doesn't necessarily mean IE6 is the best (unless you're shit nuts).

I am talking about running windows as a server environment, using a web browser normally not necessary.

When running a webserver IIS and ASP.NET along with MSSQL is far more secure then Apache + Php + Mysql.

You misunderstand, I think. I realize that but my point is that just because something is popular with corporate culture at a given time does not lend any credence to it being superior in areas such as security or reliability. There are often other factors in play such as maintenance contracts, available labor, and contract terms.

The primary variable when it comes to security lies between the ears of the person or persons administering it. Linux actually tends to historically have more possibilities in this regard as a rule but often it is set up and maintained by people who do not know what they are doing. Because something is closed source (vs open source or a "free script") does not mean it is necessarily more secure for that reason alone unless you believe in security through obscurity.
