This is wrong on so many levels.

They should also do this to Jaws, except replace the mechanical shark with a CGI shark.

I know !!! This is really cool...

I loved this show when I was a kid and Tracy bought me the whole set on DVD a couple of years ago which I have watched at least 2-3 times... when I found out about this I was thrilled.

What's really cool is that they are updating the visual effects BUT they are keeping the original Brian Johnson Effects and models too. While CG is nice, there is something very cool about good old REAL models and miniatures. I love it!

I agree, i worked with Brian Johnson on a few films back in the UK including The Medus Touch with Lee Remick and Richard Burton. Crap film but huge amount of models. I built a huge 747 and a 30 ft high model of Center Point ( UK version of the Empire State Building ) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077921/

Another film was Saturn 3 with Kirk Douglas and Farrah Fawcett, http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0079285/ tons of models and effects.

I still believe the best film made to date is Jurassic Park with its use of both physical models and effect combine with CGI

Yeah but in 100 years they have to do this shit all over again and call it SPACE 2199.

They did this with the original Star Trek series too to an extent.

I've seen several of the updated old episodes. There's just a few more modern effects added, the planets look better, flightpaths seem smoother, certain colors more enhanced, etc. I haven't seen anything MAJORLY noticeable which is just fine with me. It says the changes they made have blended nicely to make the episode just a touch more enjoyable to today's viewer without ruining the feel of the original.

You know, as much as I hate to say it I will anyway... I wasn't much of a fan of Space: 1999. I found it a bit too cheesy for my liking, much prefering Star Trek.

But I think I would watch this new upgraded "2099" version.

They did the update back in 2006. You can read more here: http://trekmovie.com/2006/08/28/star...-with-new-cgi/

I watched alot of the revamped episodes. Here's what I saw:

- Super-clean images. All the scratches and "dirt" removed.
- All the colors fixed. Higher saturation, correct flesh tones, etc.
- All new visual fx. Enterprise, planets, etc, all in CG.
- Better sound. New recording of theme song, in stereo.

What they didn't change is the style. Even though the Enterprise is CG, it still looks exactly like the original 60's version. I am not sure now but I think the sound track is still mono, which is fine actually. No changes at all to the editing. No change to the framing, frame size, aspect ratio, etc. No changes to hardware or placement of props etc, anywhere that I noticed. (And I always notice these things).

Side by side comparision photos and a good article:

I had a Space:1999 lunchbox as a kid. Wish I still had it.
