Who's really killing porn industry

I originally wrote this message to Steve Lightspeed but then I tought I should make it universal. I live in Europe and I'm one of many webmasters directly hit by this current shitty situation that seems to have no logical explanation. The problem concerning intellectual property theft has been around for a few years now but nobody here bothered to look at it from a different angle. Every fucking US government after Bill Clinton simply waited for an opprtunity to erase porn from the surface of this planet and that's a fact. I couldn't believe hearing that Rapidshare won their first US lawsuit in 2009 or 10. Don't you think that tubes and torrents ruining our industry are simply a tool in the hands of people who want to get rid of something that in their small fucking minds is a pain in the ass? File sharing websites are nothing else but fencing that operates in the light of law so what would happen if you opened a store with stolen goods for example??? This is exactly the same situation and all those asswipes in capitol perfectly realise that torrent activity is killing all sectors of intellectual property like movies or music (including porn). If they only wanted they would ban all tubes and file sharing sites in the blink of an eye long time ago but for some reason they just don't give a shit. I think that every person and company that used to make profit out of intellectual property should create a coalition in America and start pushing capitol douchebags using every possible means to fight for their (and our) rights.
and BTW - perhaps you've heard about Strategic Plan to "combat" intellectual property theft formed by Obama administration in June 2010 (http://www.whitehouse.gov/blog/2010/...property-theft). Their activity looked like "chasing" Osama Bin Laden for 2 weeks in Afghanistan after 9/11. All they did was seizing 2 websites and this clearly shows that US government is as usual pretending to fight against something. It's simply unbelievable and it pisses me off every single day. If I lived in USA I would start throwing Molotov coctails at the white house just to attract media attention because that's where everything starts and ends.
Thanks for your attention.

Actually that's the kind of answer I expected. NO, Europeans don't think that Americans are stupid but if in the 80's things were going on as they are in America now communism would be still around in Eastern Europe. The problem is a bunch of things.

Look at it this way. If you went to the mall to buy sunglasses, you might have three or four stores that sell sunglasses, and maybe five more that might have sunglasses as a department. So say eight stores in two hundred sell what your looking for.

But then suddenly everyone in the mall, all stores, discover the profits to be made in selling sunglasses. So now instead of competing with eight stores, you competing with two hundred stores. Everyone is selling sunglasses.

But wait. There's a guy standing outside of the mall directing traffic across the street to a restaurant (i.e. social networking sites). But then at the restaurant there is a guy giving away free sunglasses.

So... You rent space in the mall to compete against 200 other stores selling the same shit, but no one goes there any more because they are at the restaurant getting free sunglasses with their drinks. Or.... Everyone in the world is selling porn but sixty precent of all Internet traffic goes to Facebook and Twitter, and others are giving away porn for free.

Combine that with the economic conditions we have and we are super screwed!

here's the deal.

internet porn business was a bubble. the bubble has deflated (be grateful it didn't pop).

it's tubes, its torrents, its saturation, it's shitty content & sites, its (lack of) consumer confidence, it's facebook, it's AIDS, it's charlie sheen. it's all of those things combined!

what it isn't is a goddamn government conspiracy.

the easy money will never EVER come back even if you got rid of every 'theft' site out there. the game is OVER. you can still make good money. but unlike the early days it takes work. and even said work does not guarantee riches. it's work now!

there is no EASY money in porn.

if you ain't gonna work, time to get the eff out!

Good point!! And that's what this is all about. Where the guy got the sunglasses from? The answer is simple: HE STOLE THEM!!! btw, did you see any police around him? And that's exactly what I'm getting at. Tubes and torrents are giving away free stolen "sunglasses" but nobody's chasing them. But I can't understand why you mix facebook in this shit. That's completely different market

The biggest cause of the current situation (IMO) is that tubes blew up right around the same time the economy hit the shitter, so even people who would regularly pay for a subscription are "budgeting" and going to the free tubes for the time being.

Porn tubes that offer long length free high quality videos could stop a surfer joining a pay site.

You missed it. Not only is everyone wearing stolen glasses, the people who make them and sell them through their outlet stores have no customers shopping their stores because everyone is out drinking.....

Stolen content is only a portion of the problem.

The only people doing money in adult right now are WEBCAM sponsors, Blackhat webmasters that are still not hit (but soon will), webcam models.

Scammers that build shitty TUBES and sell them for 5K-10K to some suckes who believe they will make the money back, etc....

Pirates and owners of pirating sites like extremeboard or pornbb... etc..

owners of oron.com, sharingmatrix, depositfiles.

Of course they are doing TONS of money.

Regular affiliates are probably dead right now and quit adult or are in process of quitting.

2011 = RICH WEBCAM GIRLS - Broken Adult Whitehat Honest Affiliate Webmasters.

how can you get rid of the tube, who said they have film stolen film, most have amateur video taken by people, or very old porn from 10 years ago. but that?s still enough for people not to pay. I believe there's Money to be made in niche porn and high quality porn..
for example some of these tube are even charging money for high quality movies than low quality. If you can get rid of the tubes, then people will start paying money, for now the average person will not, because they can watch it for free, jerk off and move on.. if those people have no way to watch they will start paying.
Maybe everyone in the industry should lobby and make tube illegal.

It staggers me that the adult industry is supposed to be worth billions of dollars, and yet so little has been done against tube sites and file sharing.

I don't care if these tube sites are based in mongolia or whatever. If the Whitehouse wanted to close them, they could click their fingers and they would be closed. In fact, as we know, most of these sites are run openly from Europe or even America.

So the OP is 100% correct. It would still be a fatal move for any American president to try to make porn outright illegal. But, as he said, there certainly is an agenda to slowly strangle it, either through passive inaction regarding the tubes, or through beurocracy such as the 2257.

(and isn't it ironic that stuff like the 2257 prevents honest and legal webmasters from filming legal content, for fear of the mountain of paperwork, and yet the Whitehouse doesn't give a shit about the thousands of amateur porntubes choc-a-bloc with '18 year old college girl' loses virginity in dorm room type videos.)

That might be the best thing I ever read on GFY.
For someone that's been around so long your analogies are so utterly flawed.

What it is actually like is someone goes into the mall for the glasses. They see a free trial. Wear the glasses for 3 days. No cost. So they do, then a month later see a charge for 300 bucks on their credit card and get pissed off with this store and never go back to the mall.

Someone else goes in, and buys a pair, but a month later sees a charge for another pair he didn't ask for or want. He is pissed and never goes to the mall.

Someone else walks past the glasses store and they have more free glasses, all he has to do is read this flyer. But the flyer disconnects him from the store, reconnects him to a premium store that costs 1.50 a minute to simply stand out side. He gets a bill in a month for 850 bucks, and didn't even get any glasses. He doesn't go back either.

Someone else really wants some nice glasses, sees a beautiful store front, goes in and buys the designer glasses, only to find out when he got home they are a POS, and don't do what he was told they do. He doesn't go back.

It's so fucking easy to blame piracy, which has been in existence since the dawn of time, on the fact that as an industry we've been fucking over our customers for the last 15 years and finally they have gotten wise.

Music industry faces same piracy problems, they are growing legal digital downloads.
Movie industry faces same piracy problems, they are growing legal digital downloads.
Software industry faces same piracy problems, they are growing legal digital downloads.
Porn industry faces same piracy problems, we cry like bitches and blame Fabian.

Of course it's easy to blame piracy because apart from recession there's nothing else to blame!! And of course piracy has been around since always but not on such a huge scale... this is actually catastrophy that went completely out of control. I didn't screw my customers but I guess they for some reason prefer watching crappy 1 min long poor quality amateur videos on niche tubes and they don't go any further (meaning great quality paysites)

Then on the way to the mall there is a "momnpop" shop that they goto, get what they pay for, and continue to come back. Fair prices, no hard selling, no hidden billing or fees... (hence euphoriacash.com)

Explained: The entire global system is breaking down.

Piracy has been around since the early days of beta-max tapes. The only difference between now and then is, back then the pirates would copy your videos and SELL them to consumers. Now, the pirates steal your videos and GIVE THEM AWAY FOR FREE to what should be consumers.

An entire generation of what should be consumers, have been conditioned to get all the entertainment they are looking for, for free. So now you are left to compete with everyone else in a market that is already over saturated and crowded, to get those customers who are brand new to the internet or still prefer to pay for their porn.

Add to that... credit problems, high unemployment, and years of treating porn site members like shit and ripping them off, and you're left with one tough business.

But there is still money to be made, you just have to work a hell of a lot harder, and smarter.

Apart from:

Your average surfer wants to jerk off and goes to google and searches for "porn" for the first time. He's greeted with the top results dominated by sites that give it away for nothing, why would he ever pay for it again? There are other factors but the full product being available for free is without question the primary reason.

dialers are long gone and didn't affect signups much, hidden cross sales and card banging are sure to have had an impact but not the dramatic downturn everyone has seen recently. it's with the advent of pirate tubes that everything died and if you can't see that you're deluded.

I know I talk to alot of members past and present, many say things like " why pay when I can get it for free" but alot also say " I will never use my credit card in porn again"

I think its a bit of both, not to mention the economic crisis

however, I don't think porn is the only section that was hit - even well-off people grab movies and songs off the torrents, the only things that are still going strong are probably the tangible goods and the serivces that cannot be downloaded for free

The only thing that I will give you is that just the fact that it is the porn industry makes government intervention on our behalf less likely. The same is true for large scale scams on affiliates and webmasters. If people were doing the crap they are doing within adult in any other industry they'd be in jail. But the fact that it's porn tends to help them stay out of trouble. Your average victim of card banging isn't going to want to admit that he joined Dirty18teencocksuckers.com one year ago and that this is how they originally got his CC number. You usually won't see the victims forming massive groups on Facebook encouraging the FTC to get involved. The same thing is true on the webmaster end. Most webmasters try to keep a low profile. They aren't going to start lobbying the government because we know the government isn't going to want to help us. The government might get involved now and then but it's for other reasons (such as the organization being part of a money laundering scheme). It's not to help us out.

I think this statement is mostly true... but for one thing. only in porn can you go to pornhub etc and just download it. I cant think of any other industry where piracy is as rampant.

Seriously, if you made 'music hub' (aka napster, or limewire) what do you think would happen.
you get PWNT in court, and then the judge lets the music industry go after your personal assets

I'm sure everyone can find 1 easily searchable music site where there is tons of free pirated music, where your computer isnt completely raped by warez. but I challenge you to find 20, or hundreds or thousands.

I know this is not you Nathan, but I love the quote nonetheless, just to show what a lying sack of shit this guy is.

O-u-i-s-s-a-m Y-o-u-s-s-e-f, a co-founder of Brazzers, one of the most successful new companies producing and branding online content. In a thread on piracy earlier that year, ?Brazzer,? as hahahahahahaha called himself on GFY, declared that content thieves ?will not steal it and get away with it, their days are counted!?

this is the problem, not free tubes. oversaturation killed porn. ask CCBill. porn sales aren't down, they are spread out. now instead of bangbros having a 4% marketshare they have a 0.002% marketshare. ccbill is growing. everybody else is getting smaller.

that's all there is to it. takes more work to make the same amount of money. by the end of 2010 i was back to making the same per-month as i did in 2007 but i work 4x more hours and 7 days a week.

the prechecked cross sales bullshit that happened in 2007-2008 didn't help us, however sales for credible, trusted, legit sites are down too. i doubt there's too many surfers that believe Playboy is going to rip them off.

there is one reason they will pay - to support a producer, model or site they love. build a loyal fanbase and you will see sales again. sell generic shit and you are already done.

very clear example is a site i was recently hired to revive: FantasyOne.com. they have a huge and loyal fanbase of guys who have spanked to their videos on pay-per-view for a decade. all my job has required is finding their fans and directing them to the site. conversion rates are well under 100:1 for everything but blind redirects.

find your fans or rethink your site plan.

A little about my own personal porn habit...

I used to pay for porn. Maybe once a month I would buy a membership or a DVD. Wasn't a huge consumer, but I was a consumer.

NOW... if I come to a site and see a girl I must see, I google her name and 99% of the time I find the very video I am looking for, courtesy of one of the larger tubes. That 1% of the time I can't find the exact scene I was looking for, there will usually be another scene of her by someone else for free, and that is good enough for me. Once in a blue moon with niche sites I can't find what I'm looking for, for free, but in that case it doesn't take much to side track me and pull me into a site that has many other things for me to look at for no charge.

There is simply no reason to ever pay for recorded porn again. However, I understand some people do. And thank God for them. But for me... never again. Especially after being disappointed time and time again with various members areas, if I can get porn for free, I'm taking it. And that's not even getting into the deceptive billing practices that scares the shit out of me.

However, this is a difficult stance for me because I am also a small site owner and content producer. But when FREE is faster, easier and safer than paid, what are you gonna do?

So they decided to kill porn by massively increasing the consumer base????????????????

BW costs killed porn.

And the ease of putting up shit and thinking to sell it was to give it away for free.

The late 90s were the heyday of the porn business.

of course. we know from just watching the news that other industries are being hit hard by piracy. but those industries did not continue to cannibalize themselves for the sake of the fast buck like the porn industry did.

people want to squarely blame tubes. there's validity there, but we speak of tubes as if they're some alien being or 'gov't plot'. in reality, tubes are the result of webmasters/companies that took the old adage of 'traffic is king' way too far. tubes came from within the industry. so did...

dialers
card banging
cross sales
saturation
cookie cutter sites
shitty member areas
downloadable videos

the shit we can't control and couldn't forecast (economy, facebook, tech advances) would have been bad enough. but so many things that could have been helping us to weather this current storm were laughed and scoffed at by the supposed 'leaders' of our industry.

the music and movie industries aren't really our parallels if you look at our past practices.... we're more like the real estate business in that we said 'fuck all' to everything except the fast buck.

The "Leaders" were talking to troll affiliates trying to convince them to send some traffic. Usually by giving away more free content than the other "leaders".

Many of the things that hurt us were done to pay out more for traffic. To affiliates.

Find another business and make room for people who are into it more than others. If you don't have a passion and get laid 1 or 2x a month, sell your domains, content & Affiliate Programs and buy a franchise. I don't let the content theives and torrent sites get under my skin like some people i know. If your content is King your traffic is Queen. And you will pay your bills
