of course. we know from just watching the news that other industries are being hit hard by piracy. but those industries did not continue to cannibalize themselves for the sake of the fast buck like the porn industry did.
people want to squarely blame tubes. there's validity there, but we speak of tubes as if they're some alien being or 'gov't plot'. in reality, tubes are the result of webmasters/companies that took the old adage of 'traffic is king' way too far. tubes came from
within the industry. so did...
dialers
card banging
cross sales
saturation
cookie cutter sites
shitty member areas
downloadable videos
the shit we can't control and couldn't forecast (economy, facebook, tech advances) would have been bad enough. but so many things that could have been helping us to weather this current storm were laughed and scoffed at by the supposed 'leaders' of our industry.
the music and movie industries aren't really our parallels if you look at our
past practices.... we're more like the real estate business in that we said 'fuck all' to everything except the fast buck.
