You're right, it is surprising how many don't get it. What annoys me though is when people use of, like "could of" that should be "could have".

What got this going, is I saw on iTunes, a song that was titled "You where there", and they were singing happily, "You were there". Even the ID3 Tag was written "You where there"

you can't "say" an apostraphe you can write one , but speaking it is rather difficult.

Either way unless it's in print, like a book or newspaper , it's just ease of use.

p.s. worrying about it is silly , you waste your time worrying about it , while the "uneducated" people are off having fun getting laid.. what would you rather do , get laid or write "you're" properly ?

According to the NYT, "it's" instead of "its" is now kinda accepted. I still find it awful, but it happens to me all the time too.

And yet you still understand them.

I remember seeing this study done that showed you can still read when letters are mixed around in each word.

I think most english speaking people get it but simply do not take the time to type it correctly on a BB.

Tell me about it! This is one of my biggest pet peeves. I see so many people misuse "your" properly on a daily basis. As you said, it's one thing to be a little kid and get it wrong. But as an adult? Come on. Whenever I call people out on their misuse of it they always say the same thing. "I was, uh, just typing fast is all." The reality is they don't know the difference which is why they write it wrong every single time. It only takes .02 seconds use the correct form. America's educational system is a joke.

The sad thing is, I talk to a person from Germany on a daily basis and their english is better than most Americans. English isn't even their first language but they still grasp the concept of "your" and "you're" better than most people I know. It says a lot about our country.

Has anyone ever heard of shorthand writing? No, I did not think so.

I see people in GFY trying to make themselves look far superior than they actualy are.

Here is my original qoute:
"If you were half as smart as you thought you are, you would be one smart mother fucker."

I have read many novels where its done in shorthand, and not proper gramar.
So will any of you go to publishers and inform they are un educated?

Nobody on UK tv now says "think" or "thing".

It's always "fink" or "fing".

VERY annoying...

95% sure he knows how to spell it. charlie is an eternal adolescent and at the forefront of the new languages being created at the frontiers of the tech/human coevolution.

"The modern Aeon of Horus, is portrayed as a time of self-realization as well as a growing interest in all things spiritual, and is considered to be dominated by the principle of the child. The Word of its Law is Thelema (will), which is complimented by Agape (love), and its formula is Abrahadabra. Individuality and finding the individual's True Will are the dominant aspects; its formula is that of growth, in consciousness and love, toward self-realization."

I know the difference but since I type super super fast sometimes I mess it up.

I honestly don't get why people have such a pet peeve about it online. It seems silly to me to care about something so trivial.

In a professional letter or legal document I can understand. But on a messae board, quick email or text I let it slide. The Charlie Sheen thing seems like short hand texting. I do that all the time.

It has nothing to do with typing speed, you either know or don't know when to use each.

Short hand texting is annoying as hell too. With predictive text on phones, there is no excuse to use 'gr8 h8 u2 2' etc...

When I worked in an office with a bunch of twenty-somethings, I was amazed at how lazy and bad their spelling and grammar was. We were using an email client that didn't spell check, and it was pretty funny to see some of the hotshot kids around the office who thought they were smart misspell the easiest words and use botched grammar.

Its the spell-check generation.

Sorry disagree 1000000%. I completely know the difference and sometimes when I'm typing really fast I accidentally miss the apostrophe and realize it when I reread. Sometimes I fix it and sometimes I don't. People that know me know I speak a mile a minute. My mind is always racing and I type the same way.

Not all phones predict words right. It's a lot faster to type gr8 instead of great. Not to mention you're LIMITED on how many lines of text you can send. If I have a lot to say I do short hand so it doesn't get cut off. Especially if I'm in a hurry or I'm out and about. Who has time to text something all perfect. I'd rather get my point across in the least amount of time.

What it comes down to is some people are anal and get all pet peeved over this and others look at the big picture and don't stress off the small stuff.

Haven't you ever met someone that is extremely book smart but totally lacking in social skills? And sometimes people that don't have the greatest book smarts on the other hand end up doing really well in business making a ton of money because they have the social skills to pull it off.

So If I had to choose between being a brainiac with perfect spelling working for others just getting by OR running my own business making $$$ but not having the highest book smarts and bad spelling.. I'll take being a rich bad speller.

BUT I agree it's bad if you genuinely don't know the difference. Just typing too fast and not caring is one thing. Honestly not knowing the difference is kinda sad. But if you suck at spelling but are great at other things that make up for it then so be it....

probaly

The word you mental geniuses are scratching in the dark for is probably.

The good news is it's only 2 or 3 letters longer than the brilliant shortcuts you've been posting.

There, I said it.
