Sorry disagree 1000000%. I completely know the difference and sometimes when I'm typing really fast I accidentally miss the apostrophe and realize it when I reread. Sometimes I fix it and sometimes I don't. People that know me know I speak a mile a minute. My mind is always racing and I type the same way.

Not all phones predict words right. It's a lot faster to type gr8 instead of great. Not to mention you're LIMITED on how many lines of text you can send. If I have a lot to say I do short hand so it doesn't get cut off. Especially if I'm in a hurry or I'm out and about. Who has time to text something all perfect. I'd rather get my point across in the least amount of time.
What it comes down to is some people are anal and get all pet peeved over this and others look at the big picture and don't stress off the small stuff.
Haven't you ever met someone that is extremely book smart but totally lacking in social skills? And sometimes people that don't have the greatest book smarts on the other hand end up doing really well in business making a ton of money because they have the social skills to pull it off.
So If I had to choose between being a brainiac with perfect spelling working for others just getting by OR running my own business making $$$ but not having the highest book smarts and bad spelling.. I'll take being a rich bad speller.
BUT I agree it's bad if you genuinely don't know the difference. Just typing too fast and not caring is one thing. Honestly not knowing the difference is kinda sad. But if you suck at spelling but are great at other things that make up for it then so be it....
