Computer Problems on Start up - GoFuckYourself.com

Nothing big,

But when I start up my comp, it goes through with the bios or whatever that text is that shows up on the screen

Right before it gets to the Windows XP loading screen with the green bar it goes into sleep or standby mode. The green LED on my case blinks and I have to press a button on my keyboard to get it to continue booting.

Any idea how to change this?

It sounds sleepy... Maybe not the right machine for an adult webmaster?

What have you installed lately? Hardware or software? Or updates?

hmmmm.....

hmmmmmmmm......

get into ur bios and look around.......my bios has a feature where if there is an error when booting it allows me to set different reactions.......maybe you have this and its set to go to standby when it encounters an error.

just a thought.

sorry i was a tech for years.

eh, i'm not sure either. but i'd check your bios too. also, try booting into safe mode in windows. when the first dos-ish startup bar appears, hurry up and press f8, then 'safe mode'. sometimes a lot of errors i've had are fixed by going into safe mode, let it start up all the way, then reboot normally. it may still be windows is fux0red. otherwise the bios is your best bet. you might even try resetting the bios to default, or factory settings. if one of those things doesn't do it, it may be time for a re-install. every machine needs a good enima once in a while

oh yeah, if the safe mode thing doesn't work first try, reboot in safe mode, then check your power settings and stuffs. not likely to be that, more likely windows is fux0red, but just as well.

eh, sorry, i just read your post again. the safe-mode trick usually only works for hangs on startup, not computers that work. you could try it, but i doubt it will do any good (but it's good advice in the future! works in xp and 2000).

best bet, if you have a really custom bios setup, write it all down or remember it, then default the bios. might even have to go so far as to clear the cmos, but i doubt that. that requires opening the case, btw. you can reset the bios in the bios setup tho, that setting is most likely on the first page in setup.

disable all power saving features in your bios. Most likely you have em all enabled full force, just shut em off and let windows take care of it.

Last I checked they were on default settings...

Changed the bios setting to "Halt on no errors" from "Halt on all errors"

Think that fixed it. But I wasn't even getting any errors before (or now)

Who in the hell would have a "halt on no errors" option in their BIOS?

Does that mean stop every time there are no problems?

Exact opposite. Does not halt on any errors.
