I did have to rearead that post a couple of times to understand it and in the end I thought it was just a typo, but since you brought it back up, maybe it was more a Freudian slip?

This has been an enlightening thread...

prior to this thread, I knew
        1. that TheDoc knows NATS as well as the coders that programmed it, without (I assume) knowing the source.
        2. TMM_John will defend his product on the boards (rightly so) to the last second, even though a 2 hour breather before replying would be a good lesson learned.

        What I learned:
        1. Doc has been building up much pressure lately in his little cooker that has finally decided the potatoes are cooked
        2. Doc and Kristen be making sweet love
        3. John has been taking anger management courses

        To be discovered.
        1. What transpired between Doc and John to turn up the heat on the potatoes?
        2. Do I have to worry for a potential Mini-Doc coming through the pipes to steal my clients?

        -edit

oh, and stuff about using your own data in a database you own not being allowed to be used elsewhere - can't quite understand that one, so tag that onto "to be discovered"

It was a interesting thread for sure.... and your comments made me smile.

          1. I do greatly understand nats and can make it do whatever. But I do not know the code as well as the coders do.

          1. I thought I was calm until I was called a Pirate. I can get pretty excited in person too, just the way I am - so it's a bit hard to for me to see it come through sometimes.

          2. And two kids later.

          1. The tipping point was him saying the setup Kristin explained wasn't allowed. Which basically means many clients and many others I've just did minor work for, are in violation of a rule they've never heard of.

          2. If you code, they're all yours. If you have any cool code/software that helps affiliate programs, I would be interested in selling it for you.

Data: I took it as, if you pull/query nats data to a remote source and setup a sub domain/domain for stats or any reason (ie: not a duplicate of software, just data), it isn't allowed. My view point is, it's my data and unless I'm screwing with nats itself - I can pull it out and do whatever is needed with it. The data is owned by the program owner, explicitly. If for example a lic was pulled, tmm can not legally get that data but the program owner can. Thus they can do whatever they wish with that data as long as it doesn't change/modify/screw with nats directly.

          Hope that helps.

Enlightening thread to say the least.

IMO Nats is definitely pushing the bounds of "piracy" with that accusation.

            I will be watching closely.

So we sell our software on a per affiliate program basis, but you feel you should be able to buy one copy and run 10 affiliate programs with it? (That's not meant to imply you feel that way, it's meant to ask.)

I missed this in the mess of replies to this thread, but I noticed it now while rereading the thread.

What you are doing/describing is not what the original poster is talking about. You're talking about providing a different view of stats for a different type of user under the same brand/umbrella. He is talking about running a completely different brand/affiliate program off of a single NATS install. These are totally different things. What you are doing is fine.

My answer to your original post was a bit short & generic as I wasn't trying to get into a long discussion about it (that worked out well, didn't it!). The specific details you mentioned don't necessarily make it within the proper bounds, but don't necessarily exclude it either.

just read the whole thread, thedoc came off like a kid....smoke a bowl and relax dude.

Not one person in this thread has been talking about a completely different brand/affiliate program off of a single NATS install

this whole thread is a massive miscommunication.

I disagree with that. We get tickets from people from time to time who want to setup a "white label" for their chatters and that is exactly what it is.

It's been stated in this thread that it's what the OP is looking to do as well as that he wants to hide the original affiliate program from the chatters. If you want to hide the original program, the new one clearly needs to be a different brand/affiliate program or the original isn't very well hidden.

This is exactly what this thread is about.

edit: (you edited your post) I think there was some miscommunication on Doc's part. He injected himself into a thread that had nothing to do with him or the work he does, accused me of somehow trying to steal his business among other things, attacked me personally, and in general came off exactly as you described him. The original poster has the intent described above. If it's not what he's looking to do he needs to clarify as PompusJohn described what he is looking to do pretty well and he thanked him for clarifying it (including hiding the affiliate program name a.k.a. another brand/program).

I read the thread over again, I was backed way down from what I could have been. From the feedback I've gotten already, I wasn't wrong or off base .... at all.

                          This wasn't a miscommunication...

Think of it like this.... someone creates an xml/rss feed that has statistics in it, a private feed. The feed is given to a person, they import it into a reader. The reader isn't nats, nats software, and isn't being marketed, promoted, or branded as the software/program, it's just a website (google reader) or software displaying information.....nobody is trying to steal from your Business.

I posted in this thread offering advice before you posted, on a subject I've directly dealt with before. So no, I didn't inject myself and it does have something to do with me directly.

I never accused you of stealing 'my' business, I accused you of changing the rules on the fly so you could corner the market for YOUR business. I'm not the only nats guy.

But it does show you can program... looking to freelance once in awhile?

                                        edit... shit

Before we continue, let me say; I’m not a coder – I’m a scripter, difference basically is… I can modify, add what I need, correct or remove just about anything from a set of PHP scripts but I couldn’t create most major Projects from scratch, not without help.

This does give me some huge advantages though, besides my time not always going to coding. I’ve help create many various Projects within our Industry allowing me hands on experience and knowledge on how they’re built, operate, function and I can communicate that to Coders as well.

yeah because bumping threads that are only a couple months old asking for an update is the same as making up false accusations about top advertisers here and saying they scammed 1000's of affiliates. jesus christ you are one dumb fucker.

I'm actually backing out of the consulting gig all together. Still doing related stuff, just not the actual 'consulting/labor' part of the job.

Code wise I just hire a coder... other than petty things, I'll do those but anything that takes me a few hours to break down, goes to a coder. Most coders are either very flaky or very busy... so it's a hit or miss.

If you need something though, you are more than welcome to hit me up. I'm sure I can point you in the right direction either way. email: webmaster.skills at gmail
