Unfortunately it's not worth it. The only reason I paid for badges this year was to be able to get past security to some of the parties. The "show floor" is only 2 HALF days and there's not much there.
A far cry from the old IA 2000 days at the Sands Expo Center with the huge booths and displays and thousands of people on the floor doing business for sure.
But yeah, the badge is only good to get you past the hotel security for a couple of parties. Not much else of value for me. I suppose it would be of some value for a newbie wanting to attend one of the seminars. But in this economy and with the piracy issue all but putting the affiliate model on life support...I don't foresee hundreds of eager new "webmasters" trying to break into the business. lol
Bottom line...get a badge if you're like me and can make a couple of deals at one of the parties. If you think you can get just as much work done at the center bar then don't bother. Keep in mind that the center bar is pretty damn expensive to drink at though. And you'll spend way more than the $150 the badge costs after just a few shots and a few beers at that bar.Last edited by Robbie; 12-03-2009, 12:19 PM.-Robbie

Pardon me Robbie, but that gathering of business people at the round bar is only there on those particular days due to AVN putting the show on in the first place.
Encouraging people to not get a show badge is doing a disservice to the organizers of the show, who work hard at it.Comment

Chris I'm not encouraging them not to.Pardon me Robbie, but that gathering of business people at the round bar is only there on those particular days due to AVN putting the show on in the first place.

I'm simply saying that the show doesn't offer the same value that it once did for the money. That's been a big complaint by many people over the last couple of years.
Matter of fact I would say that if a person is planning on going to Internext then they SHOULD buy the badge because it will get them to the parties (which is where the most business takes place) and as I said...the center bar at The Palms is damn expensive.
All I'm saying is that the Show Floor is not worth the money at all. So in my humble opinion AVN should get some more real value for people to attend. Last year was just really, really bad. It was like a ghost town at The Palms.
Part of that is the economy of course. But that just means that you guys are going to have to step it up to give it more value. Hopefully you did that and we'll all see it in Jan.
Now that I live here in Vegas, I can flat tell you that there are a LOT better places to do this at than The Palms. If it were my show we'd be doing it on Fremont St. and staying at The Gold Nugget. Rooms, drinks, shows...EVERYTHING is much less expensive and the enclosed Fremont St. with all the casinos and bands playing and walking from club to club with drinks is MUCH funner than the Strip or The Palms. But that's just my observation.-Robbie

I've gone for the past 7 years and will no longer be attending. Last year was laughable at best. There is NO need to go to the show, do what Robbie suggests and hang out at the bar, that's where everyone goes anyway. The showroom, I hate to say, is a total waste of money. The video expo is a wash these days too.
IMHO, a porn show with no T&A is no show at all.

I have always found it beneficial to attend the trade shows. I do enjoy the seminars and always seem to gain something from them. However the networking aspect is priceless. Not only do I make new friends, but I also learn from others who are in the same business as me.
It is also nice to rub tushys with porn stars.Comment

Robbie let me just jump back in here and say this. And this isn't directed intrinsically at you, but to those who would blatantly show up at an organized event such as Internext, as a non-paying participant.Chris I'm not encouraging them not to.

Try to relate this to what you do for a living. If you run a paysite, you know that the attitude you dislike the most is the one where the potential customer says it's not worth it to join a paysite any longer, that they can get what they want from a tube site. I'm sure you see the parallel lines here. You work hard on your paysites, and certainly don't expect people to take advantage of all that hard work by viewing it on another site for free.
Personally, I would be embarassed to show up at any webmaster event without having paid my entrance fee to the organizers.Comment

And don't worry...I have already paid for both Claudia-Marie and I to attend AEE and Internext. Though why I should have to pay fo Claudia-Marie to attend either event is beyond me.
But yes, I do think that IF a person were to come to Internext they should buy a badge. Not to access the "show floor", because that is a dead issue. And not to go to the seminars that are just the same people every year talking about stuff that doesn't really interest old school people like me...but to be able to freely access the parties (if anybody is left that has the money to sponsor them anymore)
I still think AVN has the name power to do this and kick ass with it. Just the last few years haven't shown that. The badge price is still way too high, the host hotel is still ass-raping us, and AVN itself is not hosting any kind of big get together and picking up the tab for drinks and food.
But as I said before...You guys have now made $550 off of me for AEE and Internext combined. So I'm not one to show up and not pay. I like having a show to go to. But I think when your predecessor was on here a few months ago that many people made it clear to him that they were VERY unhappy with the price/value ratio that they get from AVN itself during Internext.
I will say it again: To the relatively small group of webmasters who can afford to attend the show this year:
No matter what your feelings are towards AVN and past actions...Buy a badge.-Robbie

AVN is not embarrassed to stick their head up their own ass and to fix their awards show, so why would anyone from AVN get embarrassed to attend a show without paying for a badge?Robbie let me just jump back in here and say this. * Maybe if the price was not so high (for what you get in return), more people on the fence would come.
* Maybe if you had it at a less expensive venue, maybe more people would come.
* Maybe if it was not a few hundred feet from a BAR, maybe people would not gather at the bar for business instead of going in the show.
* Maybe if there were less parties and more business... nevermind, that one won't work.
* Maybe if the show was worth anything or had a lot of tits and ass running around, like the old days, more people would come.
Bottom line, it is too expensive for many people to attend, get rooms at that hotel, rent cars, fly in, and so on. The economy is not getting better, yet you don't change anything to accommodate for this.
I've been to the shows for many, many years and will not pay for another. I'll be the guy at the bar or hanging out with the fellas. AVN may have a lock on the industry, but not a lock on Vegas. If it was worth anything to go INSIDE the show, maybe I'd pay.
