Some of you seem confused on Alexa..

Alexa only works, when I run it for my own sites that are promoted the same way in the same niches. I can make my alexa ranking anything, it's very easy to cheat it.

I can make my alexa ranking jump 10,000%, by spamming an asian boards. My Webmaster site(s) get 1000% less traffic than my paysites, but often rank just about the same. More asians use Alexa than anyone else, more Webmasters use it than Porn Surfers.

You can install the Alexa bar yourself and start hitting your sites and your ranking will improve, get a few friends and your off to making yourself think you had growth.

Or you could just use alexa as a guide and compare it with www.quantcast.com or www.compete.com or plenty of other metrics websites and get a general idea...From what I've noticed, if you've high in alexa, you're high across the boards..Same if you're low...So if someone spammed asian boards just for an alexa rank, it would be noticed as soon as you checked quantcast...

I personally can't see anybody of significance taking the time out to spam asian sites just for an alexa ranking, whose only true value is for bragging rites and has NO monetary value unless you want to either sell the site or sell advertising on the site.

Most plugin based browser trackers (complete just uses a mixture of them) are very heavy in the Asian markets. So if those markets flock to areas they skew up in rankings.

I was more saying that Tube sites numbers are largely skewed upwards because so many Asians abuse Tubes. Looking at the rankings of sponsor tube sites, they are much much lower, and if you test the traffic it's about equal on US/CA surfers as the huge tubes.

And people really do try to screw with the Alexa rankings, it's sad. I buy links and several people have had high rankings but don't have a listing / backlink on any search engine, no archive page, ect. Happens with trades too, all over really. Same idea is faking PR really.

this applies more for revshare programs, as i do understand that pps programs have no choice but shave if they are to offer high payouts...

redirecting foreign traffic is shaving
doing cross-sales is shaving
doing up-sells is shaving
cookie expiration is shaving

my point is that outright click or sales shaving probably represents a much lower lost revenue amount than the other issues listed, cause a program can only shave so much before nobody will promote it cause its not profitable.

for all the bitching though, i doubt that there is a single revshare program out there that does NONE of the above.

I will weigh in on this as an affiliate.

I don't think any of the things you listed is shaving. Shaving imo is stealing. It's when you should get credit for a sale per their program tos and you don't because they intentionally or unintentially not give you credit for every say 5th sale, etc...

Upsells, Cross sales, Pop unders, cookies expiring, redirecting foreign traffic etc.. is all part of the program and built into what they can offer you for a sale. If a site does none of the things mentioned above I think they will offer you less per a sale then a site that does all of the above. The site does all of the above they make more money and in "most" cases you should see some of that back in higher payouts.

If you feel that a site that does these things causes you to lose signups then don't promote that site.

If you are on a revshare deal making 50% and they cross sale, pop under, upsell etc.. and you still only make your 50% of just the membership fees, I would personally avoid that company. But if you were doing PPS and those extra income sources enabled them to pay you $45 a sale instead of $35 a sale then I see nothing wrong with they are doing.
