It's sad that people have to resort to these practices to make money... But what I don't understand is how money is made if a user's computer falls apart due to the coding.

I jumped to conclusions, and i made a mistake posting on GFY before making sure sherm was aware of the issue.

I had a long day trying to fix my main computer, and the post was made out of anger. Im sorry i implied that sherm was behind it and is hould have known better, i did apologize to him and here i am apologizing to the adult community. I made a mistake, i know sherm has built his business around his reputation and to tarnish it was not right.

Once agian, sorry Sherm, i made a mistake and i hope you take it as just that.

He accused me of purposely installing malware on my site. He also titled the thread "Drama" and pointed the finger directly at me. If it was an honest attempt to help me, it would have said something along the lines of "Sherm... Check out shermsshack.com... It looks like it was exploited!"

The way it reads to people who don't open the thread is that I install spyware on my surfers' computers...Which I don't and I never will.

If I had a site completely mess up my pc I might be a little pissed off also. In these days where some webmasters purposely run spyware exploits to get paid I can see where his initial thinking was. Nobody likes to be accused of something they aren't doing, but on the contrary, if you notify a malicious webmaster privately they have the time to remove it before the webmaster community sees what is going on.

Even though it could have been handled better, I think you should be thankful to him for bringing this to your attention and not be so caught up in what people might think of you on the boards.

I had 10 voicemails and 5 text messages to me alert me, as well as a handful of ICQ's when I awoke. If I were installing Spyware like most cheats do (which I'd never do), I definitely wouldn't have done it to the point of crashing people's PC's... Do you follow me here? That site is about 5 years old with a lot of bookmarkers, SE traffic, etc... Would I really want to mess something like that up?

If it were as simple as you say, I'd have no problem with him doing that. I don't really mind what people think of me on a PERSONAL level, but when it collides with business, I take that VERY seriously. I have a business reputation to maintain, and when that is threatened, I react. Maybe you understand, and maybe you don't. Put yourself in my shoes and maybe you'll understand.

the way i got rid of it was waiting an hour or so for the system to actually boot up, then using farmanager kill all the processes in the memory that looked strange, some were masked, but farmanager exposes them all and allows you to kill processes in debug mode.

then i used hijack this to remove everything from the start up...

there may be an easier way, but thats the way that worked for me.. im sure some of it is still on my comp, lesson learned.. heh

Thanks for the find... Hitting the host up again to make sure everything is patched up. I don't have AWStats, but I think it's offered to others. I'd hate for this to happen to anybody else.
