Is The Deck Being Stacked at the ICANN .xxx Comments Link?

Are all of the "supporters" at http://forum.icann.org/lists/xxx-revised-icm-agreement/ really true and direct stakeholders, or are the religious nuts or some other folks or entities stacking the deck against us?

Do you recognize specific .xxx supporters as being legitimate stakeholders from amongst us? If not, please tell ICANN ( and, comment one-way-or-the-other here), AND please post YOUR own comment against .xxx by sending an email to ICANN at [email protected] .

All the comments, both for or against .xxx can be viewed at http://forum.icann.org/lists/xxx-revised-icm-agreement/.

Please protect this Industry by voicing your comments against .xxx. The deadline is listed at the ICANN site as "11:59 a.m. Pacific Daylight time (18:59 UTC) on 23 September 2010". Please submit your BEFORE this coming Thursday.

The opening page at www.freespeechcoalition.com contains useful/helpful info.

OK?

Well for one, they sent out spam requesting anyone that had preregistered a domain send in a comment in support of...

I think that should be mentioned in different peoples' comments... I know it's in mine!

WE Need to Help Get .xxx Defeated Before Thursday's Deadline.

In addition to participating in the link at www.freespeechcoalition.com , I sent in my personal comment to ICANN last night. Here's a copy/paste of it:
-----------------------------------------

"Most of the REAL Sponsored Community Wants .xxx DEFEATED
To: <xxx-revised-icm-agreement@xxxxxxxxx>
Subject: Most of the REAL Sponsored Community Wants .xxx DEFEATED
From: "Dave C." <davec@xxxxxxxxxx>
Date: Sun, 19 Sep 2010 20:47:46 -0700

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I am a REAL stakeholder, with over 10 years in the Sponsored Community! IMO,
ICANN needs to determine if ICM and all of the people it's motivated to
express support for .xxx are, in fact, REAL stakeholders. IMO, ICANN needs
to make certain that ICANN decides who meets stakeholder and sponsored
community status, and not be swayed by any ICM subjective
preferences/definitions/etc of it.

In my REAL stakeholder opinion, ICANN should permanently and totally deny
the ICM .xxx proposal. It seems to me that relatively few Adult Internet
people are in favor of it, while conversely, relatively MANY of the REAL
stakeholders support ICANN denial of the ICM proposed .xxx contract.

I understand that ICANN might possibly be feeling somewhat swayed due to
concern of an ICM lawsuit if .xxx isn't approved for ICM. IMO, ICANN might
indeed be involved in a multitude of lawsuits if .xxx ISN'T denied, and
those legal actions could be near-term, continuing, and long-term (e.g.,
if/when government "ghetto-ization" requires REAL STAKEHOLDERS to close
sites with .com and other presently recognized tlds, and instead use the ICM
.xxx tld; or, when continuing registry and other "issues/problems" come up,
etc---this could go on for years and years).

I worry that unless ICANN totally and permanently "kills" .xxx THIS time,
ICANN will become so overburdened in resolving matters related to .xxx that
ICANN might become unable to properly accomplish its other primary
priorities and responsibilities.

I understand that the Free Speech Coalition (FSC) has brought many IMPORTANT
issues to ICANN in the last few weeks. IMO, ICANN needs to listen to FSC and
resolve all the matters AND requests that FSC has surfaced to ICANN. Like
many other REAL stakeholders in the Sponsored Community, FSC is the overall
voice for me. ICM does not speak for me (or MANY others of the REAL
stakeholders!).

To me, this whole .xxx thing is a big noose around our necks, and the ICANN comments opportunity might be our best bet to stop the bottom from falling open beneath our feet (sorta like the what happened to Saddam Hussein when he died).

That's a good question to ask --please ask it by sending an email to [email protected] with a Cc to [email protected] . They told me that inputting to the FSC site's link is OK, and that I could ALSO post my own personal thoughts/opinions/etc at the ICANN site via [email protected] .

Please let us know what FSC tells you--thanks!!

As of just a few minutes ago, for postings thus far today, it's 24-1 in favor of those supporting .xxx to just one against .xxx.

I recognized only three of the 24, two of which might be REAL stakeholders, and Dave Pounder who is a porn producer/talent (because he's pushing to get .xxx approved, I will never recommend him as talent to anyone I know; nor will I ever recommend any releases he's in to anyone asking for info on DVD purchases).

.xxx will become reality eventually, with or without consent.

it is another control mechanism. they are trying to get a leash on the Internet.

Honestly, are you surprised? There is money to be made. Most of the dirt bags in this business would sell their own mothers for $20.

----------------------------------------------

Dear ICANN,
There was a time when I was opposed to .XXX, but after serious thought, I believe an industry ghetto is exactly what the adult industry deserves. Since we are unable to regulate ourselves in ANY manner, constantly screwing over our customers, screwing over each other, always taking the short cut and now flat out stealing from each other and hiding behind copyright law. Perhaps it is best if someone else or another entity regulates the business for us.

We have proven time and time again that we are inept and totally incapable of doing anything as an industry, other than screwing up and screwing everyone over. It would be in everyone's best interest to approve XXX and stick us where we belong, in the ghetto.

Regards,
Your biggest supporter

BTW... The fact that you can send random anonymous emails in to show support or lack of, shows just how fucked in the ass we're getting.

I could hire a warehouse of Filipinos to send bogus mails all day long to them, but it wouldn't matter because they have already decided and are playing everyone for fools. If they were serious, you would have to sumbit some sort of proof that you actually exists.

I sent an email to ICANN at [email protected] this morning, got the confirmation email within 5 minutes, went to the website to enter the confirm code they sent (an alternative to just replying to the email) and my comments appeared in the thread about 15 minutes later.

Here's a copy of what I sent them, in hopes it'll inspire a few more people to say something.

* Subject: Creating the new .xxx TLD is NOT supported by the Adult Industry
* From: Simon at ExtremePorn <webmaster@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
* Date: Wed, 22 Sep 2010 06:53:39 -0400

I've been actively involved in creating and managing adult entertainment websites for over 13 years. In this time I've made thousands of contacts within the adult industry and actively communicate with several hundred adult website owners on a regular basis. Although between us we own many thousands of adult domain names, in discussing this new proposed .xxx TLD, I have yet to find anyone interested in owning a domain using the .xxx TLD *except* as a way to protect the branding of adult domains they already own.

By this I mean that there are, of course, adult domain owners who would not want someone else owning the .xxx version of a .com website domain they already own and have spent many years and a lot of money to promote and establish. This proposed new .xxx TLD is, in fact, a generally hated idea to almost all webmasters who have spent years investing in .com domains to build commercial adult websites.

The establishment of this new TLD would force current .com domain owners to invest more money in buying .xxx versions of their domains just to protect them from those who would try to profit by misleading consumers into believing they are dealing with the owners of the original .com website when they are instead doing business with a completely different owner--potentially an owner whose only business is to steal business from those who have worked hard to build a real business using .com domains.

I hope those who are in charge of approving or denying the creation of this new proposed .xxx TLD will understand that most of those who have signed up to pre-register a .xxx domain are doing so to protect infringement on their own .com domains. And that aside from those being coerced and extorted into having to do this to protect what they already own, there are those shady operators who are trying to pre-register .xxx domains in order to attempt to infringe on .com domains/websites which they do not own. None of these pre-registrations should be viewed as any real indication of independent interest in the creation of the new .xxx TLD.

For these reasons I'm writing today to protest the establishment of this new TLD which is absolutely *not* needed or wanted by the vast majority of those actually involved in the adult industry.
