![]() Ontarians could soon be chowing down on a wider selection of street eats after Health Minister George Smitherman announced Saturday that the government will update food regulations.
The new rules will allow street vendors to sell a variety of tasty items, including salads, fruit, pizza, samosas, soup and more. "By expanding street menus, we are making it possible for our food options to reflect our multiculturalism," said Smitherman. "We are also helping a new group of entrepreneurs showcase their culture's culinary contributions to their cities," he added. The new law will also allow local health officers to approve items at their discretion. As of now, food regulations limit street offerings to pre-cooked meat products, like hot dogs and sausages. The change will come into effect August 1. |

This thread title is misleading.
Street meat is the only good thing Toronto has going for it.

Variety is good. Alot of those meats taste good, but they are loaded with fat and sodium.

Quote:
Gyros are served in a Greek pita that is usually lightly oiled and fried. They are typically garnished with tomatoes, onions and tzatziki. The meat is usually pork or lamb. A shawarma is served in a pocket pita and is usually garnished with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, pickled turnips and hummus and/or garlic mayo. The meat is usually lamb, beef and lamb or chicken. The meats for each are seasoned differently. And no, you didn't say they were the same, but WG asked about shawarmas and you referred him to a gyros place.
