For all you dog owners..
What brand of food do you feed your dog? There are so many to choose from these days. In your opinion what is the best?

Pedigree works for my St Bernard - though we add in some Vitamin E and eggs to her food for protein for her skin and fur.

Iams weight control with some canned carrots.
Ice cubes as snacks. Just because the lab's getting a bit chubby.

No fillers or preservatives. There are different varieties but the one my min pins get is the fish and whole grain one. Good luck ![]()

Sam's Club store brand. The dogs love it and I think it's actually made for them by Iams.

Kirkland brand from Costco. Comes with 12 cans of Chicken & Rice, and 12 of Lamb & rice I think .. I don't know who really makes it though. It looks like Iam though.

Nutro Max for the dogs and cat. When I first got Ferdinand he was on Solid Gold and could clear a room when he pooted. He and Meg have thrived well on the Nutro for 8+ years (vet says they are the healthiest pugs at 10 and 13 he's seen) and Ariel is now eating is also

I have to say the best three foods you can possible buy are
1. Eukaneba 2.Pedigree 3.Iams I trained my dogs for 6 years in dog agility and for several years in flyball and found that they not only performed better on those foods but their attitude and health in general was MUCH better. |

iams or eukanuba.. both good but if you find your dog doesn't like it, put a little beef boullion and warm water together and pour it over the top.
I'm sure its like human food. the healthier it is, the shittier it tastes. |

I feed my dogs a Veterinary blend of Eukanaba called "Response FP". It's made with fish and potato and brings a really nice shine to the dogs coat. It's kind of expensive, but I have a dog with a beef allergy. Costs me about $300 a month to feed 3 Rottweilers.
My sister, who is a Vet reccomends Eukanaba or Metacal.

The Nutro Max I use is for "For Overweight, Less Active Dogs". One morning my brother was staying with us at the beach, woke up exhausted it read it as "For Overweight, Less Attractive Dogs" because of the pugs.

Ingredients, ganked from some site I googled just now: Solid Gold WolfKing is a dry food formula for large breed dogs made with bison, salmon meal, brown rice, millet, and barley. Includes flaxseed oil, garlic, amaranth, blueberries, and host of other nutrients for a complete, balanced diet. Not cheap, but worth it for my boy. Here's a picture of how happy he is sleeping after a big meal. ![]() |

I used to feed our Lab eukanuba but changed to a much cheaper brand of dry food, the dog loves it, he's just as fit and healthy, his coat is fantastic and it's 1/3 the cost.

innova evo http://www.naturapet.com/display.php?d=inn-home
its the closest to raw , if your dog food has more carbs than protein its crap. Dogs are carnivores not omnivores. |

The best dog treats I've ever found are dried strips of chicken from Costco. Dogs love 'em & they're all natural. You can buy a big bag for about $10.
Still haven't found a good all natural food that my dogs will eat consistently. They seem to get bored with the same diet & towards the end of a bag, will stop eating. Walthams from the vet was the best brand I've ever bought...tough to find though. Another Costco trick - if you have little dogs with sensitive stomachs, buy a big box of instant potatoes. Just add hot water & you've got plain starchy food that will settle their stomachs. Mine love it too! |

ack! i can't believe how many people believe 1. iams 2. eukanuba and 3. pedigree are good brands of dog good. all of these contain fillers and not real meat. dogs like and need meat. nutro brand and solid gold are the best ones to find in big pet stores like petco or petsmart, so for convenience sake those might be at the top of a dog owner's list.
if you want to give your dog the best possible diet in dry food, try brands like natural balance or wellness - both come in a variety of flavours, depending on your dog's stomach sensitivity and/or allergies. they all have vegetables in them for vitamins your dog needs as well as brown rice, which is great for your pup's gut. if you're willing to take a few tries to get the diet perfect, try raw diet. google it online, it's not just raw meat, it's veggies and fruits and milk/whey proteins as well. raw meat is stored in your freezer usually in precut chunks. we're still working out lee.loo's diet, she's not fond of any dry food yet, really...she eats these natural balance dog food rolls in turkey flavour and picks out the dry food bits i try to sneak in. ![]() ![]()

My pet store owner friend said that meat meal, bone meal or meat by products are dead dogs and cats. http://www.newstarget.com/012647.html So check the ingredients. I feed my dog nutro. I mix a couple bags together also. I just think it might taste better.

Just like people different dogs will like and tolerate different foods. My 13 year old doesn't even chew her food - she swallows it whole. They all also eat birdseed that fell from the feeder, anything I accidentally drop on the floor (as soon as I go into the kitchen they stand around me staring at the floor...) and if they could get through the babygate, they'd eat the cat poop.
Talk to your vet, get some recommendations and go from there. Also don't change brands immediately - do it in parts - maybe add a few bites every meal or so for a week+. See what works for your doggie ![]() |
