Right-Click with Windows Freezes
Strange problems with Windows today. If I use Windows Explorer, and right-click on a file folder or disk drive, it will freeze for about 10 to 20 minutes. I can right-click on a File with no trouble.

Might be a problem with windows indexing, or spyware.

Goto Services and turn off the Indexign Service, see if this changes anything. If it doesnt fix your problem, enable the service again.

I've always been pretty good about spyware and viruses. I mostly use Opera and IE is hardened to only accept downloads or activex from windows update, etc. CPU load is 0%, 1%, etc. 633 MB RAM unused of 1GB.
Indexing was already off.

even if you are really dilligent about it, it's still worth checking every once and a while. of course if it's not that you could always just try restoring windows.

Smack, I did run a complete scan with both, it was the first thing I tried. I'm hoping I won't have to locate my XP CD and do a restore or repair. When this happens, it doesn't take up any resources either. I can use everything in the system just fine. The right-click just doesn't bring up a menu, it locks windows explorer for about 10 minutes and then it's as if nothing happened.

I had a problem with some things the other day. Try doing this.
Start > All Programs > Accesories > System Tools > System Restore From there you can try restoring your system to a different time. First you should create a restore point of the current time incase of problems. It fixed a network problem I had after I installed some programs. |

I went back to a System restore point from 10 days ago after one from a few days ago didn't help. Now I don't have a problem with it. Seems to be doing ok. Anything I should watch out for now since it's reverted to a restore point 10 days old ?
