Dull. After the first 20 minutes of playing, you have seen everything there is to see. Repetitive bullshit.

It's great for the PC, so long as you enjoy being terrified of dark hallways with hissing noises and moving shadows

Honestly? It's pretty crappy.

Visually it's very nicely done, suitably creepy clausterphobic atmosphere... but it gets old, sooooo old, so quickly. All of the tension in the game basically comes from demons and shit hiding in closets and behind closed doors that jump out at you at random intervals. Gameplay is about as basic as you can get, and the story (if you can call it one) is seriously underdeveloped versus other FPSes out there.

It's one of those games you'll play once and probably never play again.

Absolutely. The physics engine is really nice to play with too. Adds a lot to the experience of 'being there'.

HL2 rocks, that's why you hear rave reviews about it. The physics, gameplay, graphics, story, everything is fucking great.

HL2 is the god of first person shooters right now. It's got an excellent single player experience, and there's so many modifications in the works for it from the community that people will be playing it for years and years (as was the case with the original halflife).

Cuz half life is awesome.

The original halflife pioneered the concept of developing a story around the FPS, instead of the "Here's the story, now go kill shit" play of wolf3d/quake/doom. The unfolding mystery meant progressing in halflife actually felt meaningful, as opposed to getting to the next level of uninspired evil monsters to massacre.

Half-life 2 managed to re-capture that sense of 'what the fuck'itude, where you're trying to figure out what the hell is going on while running for your life and surviving in an increasingly hostile atmosphere. Doom3 TRIED to pull that off, but really it just got repetitive. HL2 mixes it up with dozens of different environments, vehicles, non-players that you interact with in a meaningful way... and it has a solid story that unfolds as you go along.

Oh yeah, and Heady Lamar.

MODDING!!!! I'm all over some modding! I have hacked and modified more shit than you can shake a stick at. I'm the only guy to figure out the original code to the Game Gear T2 game and I haven't stopped since.

Now I'm modding Elite Force, Jedi Academy, every pc game I can get my hands on.

So HL1 and HL2 must be all that since everybody is raving about it.

What platform is best? PS2? X Box? I gotta have it!

Ahhhhhh!!!! It's out on the PC??? With a new expansion pack???? Modding????

I'm picking it up tomorrow!!!

Any communities to go to for board talk about the game?

I am a skinning and map making fool. There's so much work to do you can't do it all anymore. Putting together a big ass mod calls for a big team of people.

Dang! the demo for this game is like over 750 mbs! I'll try it out tonight and let you blokes know if it's worth it or not.

Every review, EVERY review I've read gives this game the biggest thumbs up I've ever read about a game. I'm no zombie-killer-game fan, but there must be something more to this game than that.

You do realize that this game has been out for months already and most likely that anyone here who plays games has already tried it, right?

the xbox version is useless. only 4 players on multiplayer? cmon, what the fuck were you thinking.

even doom one on pc could handle more during lanfest in computer labs at high schools.

edit - i wouldnt even rent this game.

also, project snowblind for xbox has horrible multiplayer as well. its like a shitty version of unreal.

Ya think Rick??? You caught on to that???

Of course I know the game's been out. There are too many games to play and I'm just getting around to this one. Primary reason is I'm not into 1st person shooters as I do enough real life shootin' to not need it.

What's attracting me to this game is the across the board kudos it's getting from even non-gamers.

Shooting zombies all day is about as much fun to me as countin' asshairs.

FFFFuck no!!!

I only played two rounds of this game and had to call it quits. That's why I'm banned from several major theme parks from going into the haunted houses.

If I played this game more than 2 hours by the next day I would be arrested for bustin' a cap in someone's ass by mistake.

The zombies weren't that scary and the game was easy to figure out. The graphics are very well done and the sound on my new system is enough to give you the willies.

Yet I can't play games like this. I'm to war worn to fuck up and end up shootin' somebody by mistake considerin' all the zombie lookin' women in Hollywood.

I don't know which one of you fools convinced me to play this game but you almost got somebody hurt.

Great state of the art stuff but for us old rode hard and put up wet war worn fellas it's a wee bit too much.

Keep playing...I usually only play sports games but I LOVED HL2 once I got going. You'' fight plenty of soldiers/machines/etc. later

Plus there's puzzles and fun vehicles later on.

Did you get the gravity gun yet?

I rented doom 3, and played about 3-4 hours total and just got past the first boss. The game itself is pretty cool. I'm pretty impatient with gaming so I found myself getting lost in some of the levels because I just run through it and forget where I am. The monsters can jump out and startle you at times, which is cool. I played with headphones on and the lights in the room off, which gave me the best experience yet. The monsters are pretty easy to kill, because they give you a freaking shotty (in like the first level) which kills in 1-2 shots on every monster pretty much. I am a very avid halo 2 multiplayer person so playing doom 3 hasn't tested my skills yet, although the boss did take me 3 tries to kill. As far as multiplayer on doom 3, I haven't tried it, and I don't know if I even will because I was playing 4 person deathmatches on doom 2 ten years ago on a local multi-node bbs. It's 2005 FFS! Time to step it up ID!

Also, I'd like to mention, that doom has stayed true to its form. If you forget to save, you will pay dearly. Just like old times. Remember the old elevator-rooms you had to run into at the end of each level? they are still there. Really brings back some great memories of childhood gaming

Rating thus far: 9/10
Best xbox game since halo 2

I've had the Xbox version for two weeks now and have already play thru it.

It's not quite as graphic intensive as the PC version, but considering the Xbox is running a Celeron processor it's pretty impressive.

My buddy and I are playing thru the game Co-op now and it's an even different experience from both the singleplayer Xbox and singleplayer PC games.

I have a great story that would work well as a FPS game. I've been thinking of trying to put a team together to work on the game.

It's based on a screenplay that my best friend and I wrote and are shopping around. Think Men In Black crossed with SpyKids and you'll see where I'm going.

A big team is a must. You down?

Okay, I'm hooked on Half Life 2. It took a good night's rest to realize why it's so popular.

I woke up, people at 7-11 were getting on my nerves, new postal lady who is slower than liquid shit crawlin' uphill. Dizzy broad from class acting like a jerk. Annoying panhandler moron. Sloppy guy throwin' trash on my lawn instead of usin' the garbage bin.

You get frustrated and wanna take it out on somebody and you break out games like Half Life 2 or Doom 3.

NOW I get it. When you can't beat the shit out of real people you used video games!

I should have realized this a long time ago.
