Someone has to say it - that'd explain why traffic from them is up for a lot of my sites

Until there's been enough time to study it it's just pot luck. Obviously for every site that drops one must climb. It'll be interesting to see what the changes that caused it are. Not all my stuff has climbed by any means but thankfully the more important stuff seems to have which is nice.

Yahoo traffic may not even come close to Google in quantity but it's still something I'll happily take as much of as I can

Yeah, I was getting an average of 600 hits a day from Yahoo.

I have been able to increase my hits with Google to an ave of 1000 a day.

I have been working on the Hilltop algorithm for a couple weeks now and will be ready with about 100 new pages for Google. We shall see how it works. No spam is what they are trying to weed out.

Sadly with Google they've done the opposite in many cases. Although they've been successful in removing certain types of spam for the most part, they've also heavily penalised a lot of legitimate sites and allowed slightly more intelligent spam to flourish. Still, on balance I can't complain for my own results It can be a pain in the ass when searching for other stuff though.

All my sub front pages tanked with Google and then showed up on Yahoo. By adding special documents to my main domains I have had a nice increase with Google though.

I am thinking on focusing on other minor search engines because one hit from Altavist is still worth one hit on Google.

That's OK as long as you don't lose google traffic because of it. Although the value of the hits may be similar the numbers are HUGELY different. I have some GOOD keywords top on some of the ex-players such as altavista and the traffic is TINY in comparison to google.

thanks

For the other search engines I would use all new domains specific for each SE. I will not change anything on my current ones until I see a drop. Most on Google are all in the top ten of each key word group.
