FBI ALERT - Do not carry The Old Farmers Almanac in Public anymore!

WASHINGTON - The FBI is warning police nationwide to be alert for people carrying almanacs, cautioning that the popular reference books covering everything from abbreviations to weather trends could be used for terrorist planning.

Almanac

LOL I love how people jump to illogical conclusions.

yes it's funny that they are warning about the farmer's almanac...however you know exactly what they are referring to.

If Biff the farmer's son carries one down the streets of Wichita Kansas and gets a ticket for jaywalking no one's going to pay attention.

But if Mohammed riding through the Midwest while visiting the US on a student visa is pulled over and upon further investigation you find this item it just MIGHT be one piece of a much larger puzzle.

Yeah, just imagine a student in possession of an almanac... must be up to no good

In all fairness, this is completely and utterly idiotic. Ofcourse, certain documents can be suspicious in possession of certain people. But specifically naming almanacs is close to insanity.

Also, think about this one for a bit:
"The practice of researching potential targets is consistent with known methods of al-Qaida and other terrorist organizations".

Its obvious that red-blooded Americans are know-it-alls hence we know everything in the Almanacs without actually carrying, referencing, or reading them.

Anyone actually carrying an Almanac, especially in public, and more especially outside of a bag (meaning not recently purchased), is obviously up to no good.

I've already said it's funny..but I think there's a difference between a white corn fed football player from Nebraska carrying the almanac and someone of middle eastern descent who happens to be here on a student visa..which you know we've got terrorist cells in this country using student visas.

I honestly don't know what kind of information they are pulling from it but there's a lot more info in the almanac than just "locations." It's good for projecting weather patterns, mean temps etc.

There has to be a reason they would release this information, I doubt they just pulled this out of thin air. There's a connection somewhere so I can see them telling police officers to add this among the list of things that might look strange if carried by foreign nationals..other things would include...

Large amounts of cash...one way tickets...etc..etc..things that make you go hmm is all.

There you go add to the ignorance.

You think the government is going to actually to say in their release to only look for "dark skinned" people carrying this book when that's EXACTLY what everyone on this thread knows they are referrig to.

Why would some Saudi national be carrying a Farmer's Almanac with him?

Once again it's pretty apparent there's been some kind of connection here...if the government is going to begin with book burnings do you think they are actually going to start with the farmer's almanac...give me a fucking break.

This is ridiculous. Yeah, there is a difference between the hick walking down the road w/ a pitchfork in his hand...and a middle eastern dude doing the same. The only thing that memos like this do for the fight against terrorism is help make thousands of police officers even more prejudiced than they already are. When it comes down to it, this is really the same as saying 'if you see a middle eastern person walking along w/ a laptop and pda, they may be organized enough to be a terrorist.'

Of course it's silly..of course it's prejudiced...not denying that....however I doubt that's the first book most foreign nationals purchase when coming to America..however I can see them bringing their laptops.

It's called scarcasm, perhaps its too early in the morning for you for that?

But really, no one buys and/or uses alamancs outside of the house, hence everyone carrying them is a possible threat, or at least acting out of the ordinary enough to be investigated.

And all middle-eastern people are already looked at doubly, simply because of their skin color, I believe its called racial-profiling, or playing the odds.

They know something in order to give this warning. Probably through the chatter or surveillance.

More than likely some of the ones they are tracking are using them but for what? I would say for communication rather than the actual planning.

Good luck to them, how close is the Almanac anyways. I remember reading it years ago when I worked in a store and it wasn't too accurate.

Wouldn't it be frustrating if you heard through credible sources and research that some terrorist cells were going to use a certain reference book as a way to pass codes/ciphers (e.g. use a series of numbers to denote pages, lines and words in a certain book in order to code messages), and the only reaction from people to you spearding the word was that you were an idiot and just trying to ban books or arrest people for no reason....

....and the most ironic part being that the vast majority of the people that are ridiculing you have no idea of how many terrorist attempts you have STOPPED with all your hard work. It must get frustrating at time to know as a US intellegence worker that the people that you are protecting think that you are just a paranoid idiot and smugly make fun of you with little or no facts....

The government is on a mission to know everything about everyone and also anyone who's activities don't match the norms.

Between the lines, so they couldn't get nailed for racial profiling, they just told 18,000 police departments in the US to report anyone who has the foreign / terrorist / middle eastern look and is carrying research almanac books in their car if they get pulled over.

Of course now with that information released to the general public I would imagine that anyone with bad intentions would "conceal there almanac" <-- I cant believe I said that.

I'm with you bonzo, they are doing this for a reason. The fbi is warning police, which means this was leaked to the media and not issued to the media. They are not telling citizens to watch out for anyone carrying an almanac, they are telling the police. They know something they are not telling us, but as long as they do their job I don't give a fuck. I don't like the vague warnings, but I know why they do it. They don't want to give away how they are obtaining the info.

I think the authorities should issue instructions to seal the almanac with ... duct tape ... Heard everybody had some....
