Format C:
I'm tyring to reformat and do a new clean install of Windows ME. When I attempt to Format C: I get a message saying "Drive C; is currently in use by another process. Aborting format."
What do I need to do? Any help here would be great? |

Youre still running Windows. Either exit into Dos mode, not just a command prompt or make a boot disk, boot from the disk (not your hard drive) and format the sumbitch!

i think windows has a sort of anti-self format thing going on.
i remember having similar problems. i think what i did was go into FDisk, delete/crete partitions, and then restart the PC with install disk in the drive.

Look guys - I can assure that spending the fucking $80.00 to upgrade to XP is not the issue here. I run XP on most of my PC's here. There is a very specific reason why I'm still using ME on this particular PC. So, if you can offer an answer to MY ORIGINAL QUESTION is would be greatly appreciated.

You need to make a start-up/boot disk first.
- Right click on a: and click on format or properties then see if you can find "make start-up disk". - Restart your computer but leave the floppy inside the drive. - when the floppy boots up, do a fdisk then format c: Hope this is right ![]() |

If you boot and you get the Windows startup screen, you are not going to be able to format C:.
