First experience with scumware -- tgp owners listen up

Up until last week I hadn't had any problems with spy shit or scumware or anything. So I was doing some surfing of one of my sites, checking some links to make sure all was in order and working, and I clicked on my trade link to call-kelly.com......... then decided to see what movies were up on that site that day.... this was last monday or so. I clicked on their "movies" page, and hit the first few movie galleries to see what's there, being the horndog that I am of course...... and on clicking the 4th gallery listed for that day I got hit with popups and multiple prompts of different sorts. After fighting to clear those popups, I checked my bookmarks and sure enough I saw that I had 5 new porn bookmarks forced upon me. DELETEx5.

I decided to check my homepage settings, and yes, that too had been changed. grrrr. I changed it back to my usual start page. Now, I'll stop here and say right now that I'm pretty sure it's not actually Call-Kelly's fault that this happened. Probably one of their submitters is simply a fucking cheater is all. Anyway, I was thinking of emailing them, but then I noticed that whenever I hit one of my smutserver pages it would pop a new window loaded with xxx spam. I thought "waaat??"...... Tried it several times.... spam every time, sometimes multiple windows. Was smutserver popping shit on their webmasters all of a sudden?? .... unlikely. I ICQ'd my buddy Wayne from Smutserver just to get his input on this, and sure enough, he says it must be scumware affecting my system, as no other reports of this had come in to him.

I tried everything...... I tried two anti-spyware/adware/scumware programs..... neither could dig this thing out for me. Symptoms (other than the popups on smutserver) were that I couldn't scroll the boards very easily anymore..... took forever to post..... and was having multiple browser crashes, like 2 or 3 per hour, sometimes more. Certain other programs weren't working smoothly all of a sudden. Finally, today.... I hit the spacebar on startup and went into my "Goback" program which is part of the Norton bundle, and took my system back exactly 1 week, just to be sure that I went back far enough to a time before this shit started.

It worked.

No more popups on my network, no more problems with surfing the boards. Best $29.95 I ever invested in was that Norton 2002 bundle.

Anyways, tgp owners..... keep a closer eye on those links....... someone is fucking around with your surfers. This was the most aggressive attack I've gotten so far, and it's been a pain in the ass for me this past week. Now back to "Bride of Chuckie" on the horror network <img SRC="http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/biggrin.gif">

Been at war with scumware for about two weeks. My girlfriend downloaded a few differernt programs the other night, finally cleaned this machine up. It was fucking brutal. I can't imagine what a new surfer, or someone who doesn't have access to so many experienced webmasters, would do.

If you have a problem getting rid of scumware it ids probably a browser helper object.
Get BHO-Cop and it should solve the problem without having to do a goback thingy

Okay, this won't fix you current problem but you should really set your browser to prompt you before installing or downloading Active X components, which is what dialers and spyware usually are. You can also browse with hahahahahahahahahaha/java disabled but I know that makes it sort of hard to check for cheaters. Just set your browser settings to the highest security.

Another reason I use a pop-up blocker.

Guys, I dont want to sound like a dick, but I have had Active X set to "prompt" for a few years now on MSIE. I also NEVER click yes for an Active X prompt on a gallery/TGP/MGP or site promoting porn. (excluding GFY)
And we used BHO Cop, SpyBot S&D, Norton, Ad-Aware, and other programs - I honestly dont know which program finally 100% did the trick (think it was Ad-Aware).

All I know is I will stick to surfing with Netscape and Opera from now on. That was just total bullshit to deal with.

Gadzooks!

I've been bitchin' about this spyware/scumware shit for 2 weeks now and it's like nobody's listening.

Reason being is too many are using it to rip people off.

I'll post the three links useful:

www.winpatrol.com

www.spybot.com

www.scumware.com

The sudden rash of fast-spyware-downloading dialers and spyware is due to the fact that we've all got broadband now.

Shit wouldn't work on 56k or 28.8

I noticed them several weeks ago on the TGP sites. All over the friggin' place and insidious too.

When you run sites with blindlinks, redirects, browser locks, hidden browsers etc. you're bound to have this shit on your site whether you did it or not. Considering the amount of traffic a TGP can get just one link can harm an enormous amount of surfers before the site administrator can spot the offender and remove it.

I can assure you the authorities and powers that be are aware of the problem and have been monitoring the culprits and have planned a strategy.

Because of this crap and the volume of complaints soon there'll be a mandate that whatever a link says it's going to go to, it had BETTER go to it. No more masked status bars and other cloaking and misdirectional shit. Same thing will apply to websites as it does with advertising. Any deceptions of any kind will result in some form of punishment and that'd put an end to the circle Jerk-pop up scam artists out here.

These guys are fucking things up for everybody else. They may think they're getting away with it but I can assure you the only reason it's going on is because the evidence is being collected and strategies laid out.

Some guys actually think they can get away with this shit and I for one am gonna sit back and eat popcorn and laugh my ass off when I look at this board sometime in the near future and see how many webmasters are cryin' the blues cause their shit has been confiscated or they're sittin' in a jail cell somewhere. Especially the guys trying to hide behind foreign protection.

Sometimes it's not how 'many' people you bullshit, it's 'whom' you bullshit.

I've had my browser set to activeX prompt for nearly 2 years now. This particular bug was nasty, it was able to get around those settings somehow. I recieved no prompt whatsoever this time.

Next time this happens I will do the "goback" thing right away, and set it to "10 minutes ago" and that will be that.
