First experience with scumware -- tgp owners listen up
Up until last week I hadn't had any problems with spy shit or scumware or anything. So I was doing some surfing of one of my sites, checking some links to make sure all was in order and working, and I clicked on my trade link to call-kelly.com......... then decided to see what movies were up on that site that day.... this was last monday or so. I clicked on their "movies" page, and hit the first few movie galleries to see what's there, being the horndog that I am of course...... and on clicking the 4th gallery listed for that day I got hit with popups and multiple prompts of different sorts. After fighting to clear those popups, I checked my bookmarks and sure enough I saw that I had 5 new porn bookmarks forced upon me. DELETEx5.
I decided to check my homepage settings, and yes, that too had been changed. grrrr. I changed it back to my usual start page. Now, I'll stop here and say right now that I'm pretty sure it's not actually Call-Kelly's fault that this happened. Probably one of their submitters is simply a fucking cheater is all. Anyway, I was thinking of emailing them, but then I noticed that whenever I hit one of my smutserver pages it would pop a new window loaded with xxx spam. I thought "waaat??"...... Tried it several times.... spam every time, sometimes multiple windows. Was smutserver popping shit on their webmasters all of a sudden?? .... unlikely. I ICQ'd my buddy Wayne from Smutserver just to get his input on this, and sure enough, he says it must be scumware affecting my system, as no other reports of this had come in to him.
I tried everything...... I tried two anti-spyware/adware/scumware programs..... neither could dig this thing out for me. Symptoms (other than the popups on smutserver) were that I couldn't scroll the boards very easily anymore..... took forever to post..... and was having multiple browser crashes, like 2 or 3 per hour, sometimes more. Certain other programs weren't working smoothly all of a sudden. Finally, today.... I hit the spacebar on startup and went into my "Goback" program which is part of the Norton bundle, and took my system back exactly 1 week, just to be sure that I went back far enough to a time before this shit started.
It worked.
No more popups on my network, no more problems with surfing the boards. Best $29.95 I ever invested in was that Norton 2002 bundle.
Anyways, tgp owners..... keep a closer eye on those links....... someone is fucking around with your surfers. This was the most aggressive attack I've gotten so far, and it's been a pain in the ass for me this past week. Now back to "Bride of Chuckie" on the horror network <img SRC="http://bbs.gofuckyourself.net/board/biggrin.gif">
