What do I want for Xmas?

My freaking mother in law is already pressuring me about what I / we want for Xmas. If I want something I just buy it; I hate wanting something and have to wait two months to get it when I can just buy it myself.

What should I put on my list this year?

If I wanted to be traded for a pack of smokes in prison that would be good.

The in-laws tend to splurge come Christmas so it's really anything we want. I'm not looking to spend their money; I can afford to buy myself whatever.

I just need to add something to my damn list to shut her up.

I hate gift giving/receiving, I think it's retarded to buy store bought gifts for people who can afford to buy whatever the gift is.

My exceptions are gifts for kids, gifts that are unique like if you go on vacation and bring somebody back a souvenir or something that they couldn't buy where they live and gifts between significant others(spouse/bf/gf), and handmade gifts that somebody has made themselves, now that's a gift.

I completely agree with this. I asked for something different and unusual for my birthday and got a T-shirt and.... a kettle.

I have this problem as well. I usually come up with a list of things that I would like, but don't see myself buying. Last year I got an ice cream maker, which I wanted.

This year, I have no clue. Wouldn't mind a bread maker…

That's exactly how I feel about it. If I want something, I'll buy it myself.

I love my in-laws and extended family there, but everyone in the family is flat broke so I always get something lame. I always go into Christmas with "less then zero expectations" these days and I can care less what I get. Christmas is for my kid who always get spoiled.

In the mean time I have to put something on my Amazon wish list. I usually just fill it up with DVDs, movies or TV shows I haven't seen yet.

Do what I started doing years ago. Ask for money rather than gifts that I donate to the county animal shelter.

We sort of do that on a family level really. My wife had a brother who died of Lupus when we were first dating. We donate every month, and then we make a family donation every Christmas.

I was just having a major rant the other day with someone about those souvenir shot glasses that are sold at every tourist gift-shop in every city on the planet. They all have a tiny sticker on them that says "FOR DECORATIVE USE ONLY" and then goes on to say something about high levels of toxic chemicals. Everyone thinks I'm nuts when I'm at friends houses and I refuse to touch alcohol poured out of them.

http://www.npr.org/2010/11/22/131511...e-lead-cadmium

http://www.philstar.com/headlines/20...souvenir-items

http://www.interaksyon.com/article/6...irs---ecowaste

The other thing is this... If I had a souvenirs from everywhere I've been, I'd be featured on the next episode of Hoarders. The only souvenirs I bring back with me now are photos and videos. You know, the ones that don't take up any space... won't ever look tacky sitting in my kitchen, and won't kill me.

Last year I asked for a Hovercraft. And that's exactly what I got. A very small remote control Hovercraft.

Well, maybe this year you can keep the theme going by asking for a Helicopter. A very small remote controlled Helicopter.
