help a gal out please

Hello, I have two video clips on my site and the quality sucks. How do I get it to look good and still play fast over the net? I have bought several programs and just do not know the settings to use to make them come out right. I do not want people to think that is the quality of the dvd's that we sell.

I have two video clips at the top, whoever can help me or those who do I will send you some free dvd's. Just email me with your help and we will go from there. Thanks
Melissa

I second that Vegas recommendation.
What bitrate and codec are used is going to determine the quality what you encode. What program are you using to encode the DV? It may do the job when configured properly and you wouldn't have to buy another piece of software.

Hit me on ICQ - I can help you.

First, goto www.VideoCharge.com download is free (20 day trial). The program is only $99.00. You need ot run it through Video Charge, make you video much higher then 320X240. Run on a high bandwidth cut - increase frame to 60per sec. This does not take a lot of extra space, bit rate is the same as 29.3, but it is worth it because it smooths your quality of your video. There are a few other tricks too - reach me via ICQ.

Those tricks are soo 90's... we are in 2006 now, there are better codecs, filters that fixes the quality!

What did you use to rip from the DVD? That is a start ...
Also, in whatever prog. you used to make the clip/trailer it probably gives you and output specification, go with the highest quality, your files will be big since those trailers are so long... But you can save space by keeping the aspect ratio low....
I like ImToo for ripping from DVD...

Target(Output) Settings:
Size: 320x240 is standard which you are using now. 640x480 is much bigger but sometimes is just not an option due to file size.

Bitrate: Basically a quality setting. You are using 100kbps now. You need to increase this to increase quality. There is also a setting for 1-Pass CBR or 2-Pass VBR, you want 2-Pass VBR, this means it reviews the video first and then encodes it at the best bitrate for each part of the video.

Display Ratio - Double Check this setting for Source and Target. You video looks slightly squished, this could be the cause. 4:3 ratio is for standard TV view, 16:9 ratio is for wide screan only. Be sure you Source and Target are set to the same proper ratio for your video which is most likely 4:3.

Recommendations:
Dial-UP(Similar Settings to what you have now):
Size: 320x240 Bitrate: 100kbps 2-Pass VBR

High Speed:
Size: 320x240 Bitrate: 200-300kbps 2-Pass VBR
Size: 640x480 Bitrate: 300-500kbps 2-Pass VBR

Display Ratio: 4:3

Other Options:
If that doesn't help, you can save the video to uncompressed avi which should be a good high quality 200MB to 400MB file. Then you can use Microsofts free "Windows Media Encoder" to convert from Uncompressed AVI to WMV file. This is my preferred method but the Canopus can almost compete if the settings are tweaked.

Let me know if you have any other questions regarding the settings for canopus or with Windows Media Encoder Option.

I hope that helps without confusing things too much.

Happy Enoding,
Bud E
