this is a newbie question
when I try to resize a pic to 88x88, it changes the width or height to something else. How do I make it exactly 88x88? |

You don't resize a thumb to 88x88, you need to crop it first!! You need to crop the desired area as a perfect square, then you can resize to 88x88. This is a simple feature in photoshop and other similar tools...

For best results make sure you crop from as large an area as is possible, (so use the images of galleries, rather than the thumbs). Sharpen your images using filtering tools, and compress as little as your bandwidth allows, 60% to 85% on most jpeg compressors.
Comus Thumbs, is a great tool for quickly automating this whole process and making thumbs for TGP's. It also filters the images to sharpen them up. And automates all of your TGP chores. ------------------ http://comusthumbs.com - Still the best TGP Script. |

I use photoshop, select the 'crop' tool (C) and hold down shift and to make it select in a square shape. Hit enter to finalize the crop, then go Image--> Image size and change it to 88x88.
Save it to the desktop and run it through your favorite image compression software (I use eyebatch). For 88x88's I always compress them to as close to 4kb as I can manage, while making sure to stay under. Lots of sites will reject you if you're over 4k...and while some will allow 5kb, the difference in quality isn't too noticeable and I dont like making 2 thumbs. |
