Sponsors could exert their influence by changing their affiliate TOS and require that affiliate traffic sent to the sponsor's program not originate from a .XXX site. Sending traffic from a .XXX site to the sponsor's program is considered a material breach of the TOS, affiliate account is closed for material cause and affiliate forfeits all accrued commissions. If the majority of sponsors did this, ICM Registry's devil offspring .XXX would die a swift death.

So it is easy to see if an xxx site is owned by the .com owner or by someone else.
I checked a few known domains in xxx whois, and several are not by the com owners , it seems (mass) domain buyers. Unlikely they develop sites, probably they'll link the .com with an affiliate link or park for seo words, and hope xxx is a success then sell it to the com owner after a year or two for $1000's range.

I don't think the cybersquatter word it is applicable for the above practice, as there was the option to get the xxx if you pre-owned the .com or the trademark.

Of course if we had 100+ domains as some program do, that would have been a big deal quite - $10k's per year -, and I understand the anti xxx anger for sure in such cases.

We used it limited to our chatgf and tubecamgirl main sites as that's just $200, not a big deal. If xxx will not be relevant will be known in time for next renewal or two so it is not even a lifetime "extortion", it could be $400 for 2 years, or $600 for 3, then it should be clear if xxx is to renew or no.

Anyone who is anti xxx should not be angered after 1-2 years having to buy the own xxx from a cybersquatter for $1000's range, or seeing it perma-redirect to the main competitor. I mean who said at landrush phase that he will never buy an xxx and did not purchased the own .com, should not do it any time in future to be consistent.

I don't think .info, .biz, .tv, etc. invested nearly what we're investing in advertising/marketing to drive consumer traffic. Combine that with additional brand identifiers to quickly build brand equity? Lots of potential winners there.

Getting that on a non-com/net/org for a high-competition term isn't going to help nearly as much. And in many cases for something moderately competitive, you could buy a .org for as much or less than you could register the .xxx for.
