So I ALMOST thru $10k away today

Was clearing out a storage room, got a couple 2@2 metal safes that I long ago forgot the combos for my daughter was helping me asked if they were garbage I said yes nothings in them. As she was putting them out for the garbage man to pick up I said fuck it I bought this angle grinder from home depot never used it let me see if it can cut them open. It did and inside each safe was 100 2003 Proof silver eagles worth about $50 each.

NaughtyRob 11-23-2010 04:18 PM

Crazy shit. Congrats recovering them!

you getting worst than baddog, how can you not remember putting that in the safe??? obviously it was done no more than 7 years ago.

also isn't 50x50 = $2500 x 2 = 5K ?

LeRoy 11-23-2010 04:19 PM

Must be nice to forget about 10k ;)

I think 50 X 100 X 2 = 10K

fatfoo 11-23-2010 04:22 PM

It's always good to grow wealth. Everyone likes to see a really nice Balance Sheet. Take inventory of all your assets and classify them. Don't lose the wealth! Good luck. Congratulations on recovering wealth.

Was prolly in late 2002 or early 2003 I bought them directly from the mint, i think they release the next years editons 3 months or so before the year begins, not sure about that though.

Veggetto 11-23-2010 04:43 PM

Might be worth a lot more now, also selling them all in bulk will lower the price by quite a lot. If you want the full 10k you might have to sell it piece by piece, lol!

Yeah looks like retail is around $70 each. So $50 is a fair price I think. Coin market has been hit bad by the economy.

Machete_ 11-23-2010 04:45 PM

congrats on recovering the moneys

always nice to find free cash :)

CunningStunt 11-23-2010 08:27 PM

Cool story bro!

garce 11-23-2010 08:28 PM

I have like 400 safes and I'll never let anyone take them away. C'mere and try. I dare you.

mountequinox 11-23-2010 08:32 PM

Good to hear, man. Talk about a pleasant surprise!

Wagerboy 11-23-2010 08:57 PM

funny story. I was throwing out a safe too. Forgot the combo too. Pulled out a stick of dynomite for kicks to just blow it up and inside was 500k in cash I forgot about. Seems I put it there to save money instead of buying your shit traffic. Totally forgot. Go figure. *yawn*

Choker 11-23-2010 09:14 PM

Scary thing is the safes are like 1/4 thick steel took me less than 5 minutes to grind a square big enough to put my hand thru and pull stuff out. No wonder safe companies brag about how their locks can't be picked etc. Why would any thief bother trying when you can use a small grinder and be in in 5 minutes.

GAMEFINEST 11-23-2010 09:15 PM

nice free cash

NeptuneDrew 11-23-2010 09:23 PM

It's kind of like finding a $10 bill in your pocket you forgot about... 1000 times.

Jack Sparrow 11-24-2010 12:04 AM

Another dumbass story.

Waiting for the meltdown.

btw, Choker, I know it has been a while, but thanks for removing your cock from your avatar. lol

d-null 11-24-2010 01:14 AM

I can understand, 7 years is a long time, especially if there is some partying and stuff going on in between, I've found small stacks of $100's stuffed in books or clothes a few times that I forgot about, it's always a nice surprise. of course when I actively search around for stashed money nothing ever comes up, it's when I least expect it and get surprised, usually some stashed casino winnings when I was tired out and never bothered to count my money

come to think of it I should clean up my desk once and for all, I bet there are a few hundreds buried in all the junk and garbage I've let pile up on my desk in the last while... I sometimes worry that I have probably thrown away some money accidentally before

You're very close on the price. Most bulk volume dealers would buy them for between $40 and $45 dollars right now. I've been in Coin biz since 1954 and follow the market daily on Gov't issue stuff.

Also, someone posted that coin market is hurting. Wrong wrong wrong. Coin market, gold, silver are very strong. I've increased prices overall on my website every week for the past year or better to keep up with wholesale Grey Sheet prices. Last week there was over 200+ price increases alone.

piece to all :thumbsup

love those angle grinders:thumbsup BUT dont forget , there is no such thing as a perfect safe. They are generally used in combination with alarms, its just a method to slow a crook down. A lot of the pro safes have several layers, meant to really slow down cutting tools ;) Congrats on your find:thumbsup

ffmihai 11-24-2010 02:11 AM

i had to read 3 times that in order to understand what you were saying.

mightyjoe 11-24-2010 03:52 AM

ok so who put those coins on the metal safe?

dig420 11-24-2010 04:05 AM

When I was making pretty huge money back in the day, I still would never fucking forget where I stashed 10k cash money. And neither would anyone else. Unless you were drunk.

adwank 11-24-2010 05:01 AM

ottopottomouse 11-24-2010 06:52 AM

Pretty cheaply made safes if you can just cut your way in.

john FVC 11-24-2010 07:02 AM

Just as well there was not cash in them as the sparks from the grinder would have set it on fire

Realgfs 11-24-2010 07:05 AM

Please take some pics! This sounds way to awesome! Good for you!

96ukssob 11-24-2010 07:36 AM
