So each coin is 1 oz of pure silver, just the price of silver was 5$/oz in 2003 and today it's 28$/oz :thumbsup

There is a big difference from forgetting that you took a couple hundreds out of your wallet and put them somewhere vs ordering 10K in silver coins, receiving them, putting them in a safe in a storage unit, finding the safe 7 years later and forgetting that they were in there.

I've been to a few shows the last 2 years, and unless you find a brand new buyer to the hobby your not gonna get much over bid for any coins. By bad what I mean is that even amateur collectors won't pay anywhere near retail anymore. I went to the Orlando funshow and had a hard time getting bid from dealers for slabbed semi-keys. Before Ebay came along you could get retail or close to it from many buyers.

And he is also going to shows about them, but he kinda forgot about them.

Cool story for a 10yr old to believe. Maybe he thinks its necessary to "convince" people he still has some money left?

As far as how this could have happened back in 2003 or so I had at least 15 small safes that I kept a very large coin collection in. Around 2004 or so I bought 4 huge safes and transfered the contents from the small safes to the big ones. The small ones i recently found in storage I prolly couldn't find the combos for at the time and decided to put them in storage for the moment. Well the moment ended up being 6 years or so. When you have a 15k piece plus coin collection it's easy to misplace and forget about 200 pieces.

put em back, keep em for another 10 years.

i'd suggest a big safety deposit box vs a lot of little flimsy safes in a storage unit. What type of unit was it ? Walk in, inside/ out side etc ?

but seriously, your post did come across as the " I have so much money that I can easily forgot about $10,000 and almost thrown it away." Whether it is 100% true or not, that is the way it seems to come across like over compensation of some sorts. First of all if I was absent minded and stupid enough to misplace and almost throw away that much money I would be embarrassed to tell people about it and would be pissed at myself for almost pissing it away. but that is just me.

You know how people stretch the truth here. For all we know you went to the safe to get the coins out so you could cash them in because you needed the money and you forgot the combination and had to cut them out and the "story" you posted here sounded a lot better to you so you changed up the details some. None of us know except for you.

2. Even in plastic containers they would move around in the safe, unless they where jam packed. Then it would be hard to miss the difference in weight seeing these where snall safes.
