Obama banning gun ammunition

Seriously Im not making this up, the Obama administration is trying to BAN lead bullets. I sure "hope" they "change" their mind, imagine the costs to the police nationwide not to mention hunters and private citizens.

i don't know about you, but i always get my news from sites that don't know how to spell "lead" in their slugs

baddog 08-27-2010 12:05 PM

Lead is poisonous and harmful to humans. A less toxic bullet would be wise. :2 cents:

Yeah, I spotted what he was talking about after I hit submit. Not sure why he did not mention the spelling of beleaguered. That is what I first noticed.

Still wise.

Or would you prefer paying the medical bills of every lead poisoned police officer for the rest of their lives?

So it's not Obama at all.. another lame article.

I wonder how they will enforce banning lead when I can press my own rounds?

cambaby 08-27-2010 12:19 PM

You guys act as if this isnt a true story? Are you not worried about your taxes going up because your local police department will have to buy non-toxic bullets, which is a fucking joke anyways I mean you usually shoot to kill when you do shoot.

Fucking idiots cant get by an automated slug you are so willing to pay extra taxes?

Same way they eliminated the use of R-12... phase it out over time until it's simply no longer available.

The non-toxic part isn't for the target of the rounds you knucklehead, it's for the users. You are currently paying for every Gulf War veteran who was exposed to depleted uranium in Desert Storm. Depleted uranium was added to rounds and ammo to enhance the killing effectiveness, and exposed every user in the process. Do you know how long you will be paying for that through your tax dollars? Until every last soldier exposed is dead and gone.

I was one of them, and I'm not going anywhere... so keep forking it over cambaby.

You can buy a pound of pure lead in a block for about $3... It takes like an hour to make 100 reloaded rounds.

Its just another liberal way to subvert the second amendment.

Unless rounds load themselves into magazines now, you still have to touch every single one of them, and in a profession that deals with live ammo on a daily basis, that adds up over time. It's not like touching one round is going to kill you, (or one x-ray, or huffing one can of spray paint) but you touch the shit long enough you get lead poisoning. Do you think they stopped putting lead in things like gasoline and paint just arbitrarily?

pacrim 08-27-2010 12:29 PM

Most law enforcement don't use led bullets. So stop bitching since you didn't know. Plus most gun ranges don't let you use led bullet. As an owner of a gun, I wouldn't want to use that crap.

pretty much. I use lead for clay pigeons, high velocity steel shot for actual hunting.

as much as I am tempted to eat a bullet when taking a lunch break, I am scared that when i try and disassemble the shell it will go off and either take my nipples or schwang with it.

ThunderBalls 08-27-2010 12:34 PM

I believe everybody in the world should have guns. Citizens should have bazookas and rocket launchers too. I believe that all citizens should have their weapons of choice. However, I also believe that only I should have the ammunition. Because frankly, I dont trust the rest of these whackjobs with anything more dangerous than string.

String is actually my weapon of choice. Small & lightweight, fits in any pocket of course with room to spare, is silent, and is perfect for a choking kill just about anywhere as well as being a handy multi-tool, a source of entertainment during bored downtime, and even a meal if necessary.

Go to any gun range and look at the range guns, they don't clean them , it's because of the lead and the cleaning chemicals. I wear gloves when I clean my guns. I use ball bearings in my flint locks

Most rounds are coated... however lead poisoning can happen if you get shot, normally if the bullet or fragments are left in the person for long periods of time. As we know, not only criminals get shot and anything near a major organ can't be removed.

As well.. some lead shotgun rounds are now illegal, like in the early 90's or about that, don't quote me on that. But many other Countries (I think America has a few minor restrictions) have various types of lead banned, from personal use to hunting. Lead poisoning in animals from rounds (often shotgun) has been widely documented too.

While I don't really agree with a ban, I do think trying to replace lead with something that is comparable in cost and has the supply made to take over, could work.

2012 08-27-2010 12:50 PM

good luck with that

I find it's always a tangled mess when you want to throttle someone with it though.

yeah, if you get shot by it.

lead shot has no effect on the environment via leaching. the only way animals get lead poisoning is if they swallow the pellets or if they are shot and not killed.

you would have to handled a shit ton of ammo to even have a trace amount of lead in your system and anyone who does handle that much most likely wears gloves.

so if the same tards that are eating paint chips are sucking on lead rounds, well, they are asking for it.

But those tards are the same ones that now have requirements for warning labels on just about everything from maternity pajamas to cotton swabs. Maybe they could just slap a warning label on each round: "Sucking lead rounds like Altoids may cause brain damage, assuming you can still read this label." :1orglaugh

Tom_PM 08-27-2010 01:22 PM

So he's not banning gun ammunition. He's making it safer lmfao.

We should go back to the bow & arrow days, and the throwing hatchets like Dr. Quinn's gay friend.

Rochard 08-27-2010 02:42 PM

Sorry, they aren't banning ammo. They are banning lead in ammo. Big difference there. Sounds about as harmless as banning paint with lead in them.

Bill8 08-27-2010 03:31 PM

As a longtime hunter, I'm sure all the hunters here have been aware of the lead bullet controversy for at least the last 40 years.

Hell I started reading about the desireability of changed from lead bullets when I was fucking ten years old.

It's a complex issue. We have sprayed lead all over the forests for a long time. I've certainly sent my share of it downrange.

Presented the way it is, this is just more teabagger wharrgarbl sprayed by our resident bag preacher.

But, for hunters and shooters, it's still a serious issue that has to be discussed. Lead has some very desireable characteristics for bullets and shot, but it is also a very long lasting neurotoxin.

bronco67 08-27-2010 05:53 PM

Whenever I get shot, I definitely don't appreciate the lead poisoning I get from it.
