At first I didnt like this guy, I dont know he just rubbed me the wrong way, but his message is certainly very important. If he does run Ill have to seriously consider giving him my vote, although I believe there are no modern politicians that can save this country as it was.

Yeah because we want homeless people running the rebuilding of his district. You're really stretching here.

IllTestYourGirls 07-19-2010 01:23 PM

i love how people are obsessed with earmarks. Usually its big government types railing against smaller government types.

But the truth of the matter is earmarks are only a fraction of the budget, as a mater of fact, big government FRAUD accounts for more of the budget than earmarks.

Earmarks: $48 billion
Fraud: $98 billion

GAMMA303 07-19-2010 01:38 PM

Ron Paul is great. I agree with a lot of what he says more then any other politician.

Ron Paul Hates fema and bailing out people who live in flood prone areas
Quote:

Ron Paul: Because I think FEMA helps create the flood problems. (Without subsidies,) if it's risky on the Gulf Coast to build there, the insurance prices will go up. If (they're) too high, nobody will build there, or they'll build there with full risk. Flood comes, wind blows your house away, you don't get reimbursed. So there might be (only) modest building in those areas. But if the government subsidizes the insurance, saying, "If you build there, don't sweat it, we're going to bail you out," more people move into the flood-prone areas. Then who are the people that have to bail you out? Somebody that lives out in the desert. It's unfair, it's not good economics. You create more problems, more houses get flooded, and it becomes a general problem rather than an individual problem. We have undermined is the principle of measuring risk. Then people do things that they wouldn't have otherwise done.
but gives fema millions of dollars to do exactly that

http://blogs.chron.com/txpotomac/200...or_fy2009.html

• $8.8 million for FEMA for drainage at Cove Harbor in Aransas County
• $2.2 million for FEMA to reconfigure and stabilize Capano Causeway Pier
• $500,000 for FEMA for Aransas County drainage master plan
• $35 million for FEMA for drainage in Friendswood
• $10 million for FEMA for drainage project for Friendswood/Clear Creek

How would you like to see federal tax dollars spent? By a dictator like Bush or your representative?

Bush only played like he was dumb to feed into that whole "I'm a trustworthy regular guy from Texas" image that got him voted in. He is from the North East, raised in a wealthy family and graduated ivy league. It is all an act.

Yeah thats no joke.

I get why progressives called him stupid. The American people bought it. They got the their people in. But the funny way they got their people in is by claiming "Bush tricked us into voting for the war, patriot act ect." Yeah, he was the dumb one :1orglaugh

Ron Paul is typical? Check out how he votes in Congress and you will see that he votes unlike everyone else in congress.

From wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earmark_(politics)

Defenders of the earmarking process point out that directing money to particular purposes is a core Constitutional function of Congress. If Congress does not make a specific allocation, the task falls to the executive branch; there is no guarantee that the allocation made by executive agencies will be superior to Congress's. Presidents and executive officials can use the allocation of spending to reward friends and punish enemies. The process of earmarks has been substantially reformed since the beginning of the 110th Congress. Members of Congress must post all their requests on their websites and they must sign a certification letter (which are then put online) indicating that neither they nor their spouse has financial interest in the earmark request.[10] Many members have instituted an applications process that their constituents must undergo for earmark requests.[11] Finally, member-directed projects constitute 2 percent of the federal budget.[citation needed]

Here's something to consider: I oppose 2257, but that does not mean I am a hypocrite if I comply with 2257. I oppose social security but, that does not mean I am a hypocrite by collecting social security, especially if I paid taxes into social security. If I oppose government-run police and fire, that does not mean I dont use those services. In fact, you can be arrested and punished if you fail to report some crimes or fires, or fail to pay taxes. My religion may allow me more than one wife, but I may be in prison, if I do it.

As long as congress continues to pass massive budgets, then Ron Paul wants some taxes refunded back to Texas, through earmarks. Ron Paul cant issue tax refunds, so earmarks are one of the only ways to send money back to Texas. He always votes against the Federal budget, by the way. If you dont like earmarks for Texas, then tell your congressman to vote against the federal budget, like Ron Paul does, and then no one will get any earmarks.

Of course, we both already know that you dont oppose earmarks on principle. You just want to attack Ron Paul and make him look like a hypocrite, because he is not an ally of socialism/marxism/communism. Isn't that the truth?

The principle of the earmark is our responsibility. We're supposed to ? it's like a ? a tax credit. And I vote for all tax credits, no matter how silly they might seem. If I can give you any of you of your money back, I vote for it. So, if I can give my district any money back, I encourage that.

But, because the budget is out of control, I haven't voted for an appropriation in years ? if ever.
