Getting Lasik Tomorrow

...any tips? I've got my prescription eyedrops, a couple weeks worth of artificial tears, a ride home, etc... They say I will have to keep my eyes shut for 6 hours after the procedure.

idtapdat 01-21-2010 03:58 PM

its all worth it!!

~Ray 01-21-2010 03:59 PM

make sure the room is 100% dark when they map out the surgery...or else you MAY experience nightime "HALOS" around lights.

MaDalton 01-21-2010 03:59 PM

how's your vision now? i have been thinking about it for quite a while so i'm interested how it goes for you

kckitty 01-21-2010 04:03 PM

i know some people who did lasik and went completely blind

JD 01-21-2010 04:04 PM

been thinking about it for a while... dunno though. I've heard a few "horror stories" about it :/

That is what causes it? One place I did a consultation at does a second laser procedure after the lasik to enhance your night vision...

I've had halos in my night vision all my life so I'm not sure how much worse it could get.

My vision isn't bad at all, -1.25 and -1.5... I hate glasses and contacts though.

xxweekxx 01-21-2010 04:20 PM

i did it in dubai on vacation.. .. very nice.. i love my vision.. hate glasses/contacts\

a bitch for a week or two though.. dry eyes, not so good vision, etc.. but it goes fast

kckitty 01-21-2010 04:21 PM

does the vision degrade again over time? or does it stay?

iwiiiiiiiiii 01-21-2010 04:24 PM

They don't want to do it to me, they said one eye is too weak .....

mine has lasted over 10 years now I think I am going to go and get an enhancement!

at this rate its way cheaper then glasses would have been over that time

I have -2.0 in one eye :/ I hate glasses too. Contact lenses aren't that bad though this lasik stuff sounds pretty good. Please update us when you get back after and good luck. :thumbsup

danevans 01-21-2010 04:29 PM

I'm -1.75 and -2.0 and also considering Lasik for a few years now, but afraid of getting blind or something like that in my late 20s (or at any age for that matter, it just sucks).. How do they know (since everything Lasik related is relatively new) that patients wont go blind in lets say their 60's ? 30 years from now..

Amputate Your Head 01-21-2010 04:29 PM

I had mine done in Honolulu 4 years ago and still have better than perfect vision. Totally painless, and I was out having a steak at Cheesecake Factory the same night.

xxweekxx 01-21-2010 04:33 PM

lasik is not new.. the doctor who did it for me said he got his eons ago

Eric 01-21-2010 04:38 PM

You are going to love it, even though you will want to get back in front of a computer, fight that urge and rest as much as you can

maxprohost 01-21-2010 05:02 PM

Congrats on getting the surgery done. I did it about 2 years ago. One of the best things i ever did. If i would have known how much of a difference it makes i would have done it years earlier.

Varius 01-21-2010 05:07 PM

It's about time :winkwink:

After the initial "Fade to Black" which is kinda trippy, basically just follow the procedures relating to the drops and sleep with the eye shields taped on and you should be fine :thumbsup

PersianKitty 01-21-2010 05:14 PM

I was -3.7 and -5. Had it done about 7 years ago. They did a technique called Customvue. No nigt vision problems at all. He left one eye just a bit underadjusted so that In shouldn't need reading glasses anytime soon.

One off the best things I've ever done!

BradM 01-21-2010 05:16 PM

No golden showers for 3 days afterward.

MaDalton 01-21-2010 05:25 PM

i just checked for local surgeons and found out that it's about $950 per eye - i thought it's much more expensive. now i am seriously considering it - but i'll wait till you're done first ;)

ps: i am like -3,5 on both eyes - without glasses i don't even find home

god damn seriously? sounds pretty expensive...

Zango 01-21-2010 06:13 PM

You only have two eyes. I'm so sure I would mess with them.

i just checked again and it's about 30% less than I would pay in germany. and i dont think its that bad - considering that quality glasses are like $400-$500 and you need special sunglasses too. i'll look into this

Supz 01-21-2010 06:33 PM

If my 92 year old grandmother made it out ok, you will be fine.

That's pretty good. I paid $5k for mine.

Brat 01-21-2010 06:39 PM

If anyone lives in or around Montreal and would like to get it done, let me know. My sister is a surgical tech there and I can get you 10% if you're interested.

Both my sister and mother have had it done and they say it's one of the best decisions they've ever made! :)

your eyes must be 100% dilated when they map out the surgery.. if they are slightly non-dilated, then that causes the halo.

Domain Broker 01-21-2010 08:21 PM

I hope the surgery goes fantastic for you tomorrow Rob and you don't go completely blind, that would fucking suck, especially for shows, you'll be fine though ignore what I just said, you'll have better vision and the surgery will go great dawg

baddog 01-21-2010 08:30 PM

I doubt you will regret it. I had a radial keratotomy about 30 years ago and I have not regretted it for one second. Lasik would be a piece of cake comparatively speaking.

MichaelP 01-21-2010 08:39 PM

this will change your life big time.... Got it 5 years ago and never regret it. A true miracle :)

I was kinda -1.80. Make sure they dont do both eyes at the same time though. Usually they start with your dominant eye and they do the other one 24H later...

No need to worry, the procedure itself last for about 30-40seconds, the whole thing takes about 15-20 minutes

Good luck :thumbsup

None of the places I checked out do this. I'll be doing both eyes at the same time and flying home to costa rica the next day.

When I had my procedure done it was with a diamond blade. They made it two visits. These days with laser one is all it takes and if I needed it again I would not hesitate.

I recently discovered that they now have a lasik procedure for farsightedness which I will be looking into very soon.

The Ghost 01-21-2010 10:00 PM

The wife just had Lasik a month ago and couldn't be happier. Her eyes were -4.5 so night and day difference afterwards. Follow the Docters instructions and rest your eyes. Keep them covered and like Eric mentioned don't strain them. Maybe even have them covered while you sleep if you have the habit of rubbing your eyes.

My vision's about the same only positive instead of negative. Wear glasses to read and such but get around pretty good most of the time w/o them. Street signs are a bit difficult but I can still make out key letters that help me guestimate the names and get me where I need to be.

Prob biggest neg effect of not wearing my glasses is I can't make out people's faces too well at a distance, so sometimes I say hi to people I don't know and susequently sometimes I don't spot people I should greet and hurt feelings. Not ready for lasik yet though, probably should just wear my glasses more and not be such a bastard.

NewbieNudes 01-21-2010 10:55 PM

Good Luck Rob!

Where did she have it done?

I backed out of getting Lasik about 6 years ago but been thinking about doing it again. I'm sooooo tired of wearing glasses and I can't touch my eye balls so contacts are O-U-T.

kckitty 01-22-2010 04:26 AM

Some military branches require you to have perfect vision.

Can they detect that your eyes have been operated on?

<sigh>women....</sigh>

my sister was the same till her eyes got worse and worse and she had permanent headache. then she finally discovered that when you are too vain to wear glasses you can wear contacts ;)

geedub 01-22-2010 06:46 AM

not going to let a tico do it? wtf? good luck rob, im sure it'll be fine, everyone i know who's done it has been very happy

They gave me some crazy dilation drops, it was like being on ecstacy for a few hours...

The army pays for PRK (bladeless) as far as I can tell.
