GFY Believe it or Not... Your call!

To the entire adult community,

GFY did not take the TRAFFIC JUNKY skin lightly, it was thought about long and hard. In the end we took a skin from a traffic brokering company. Where their traffic is developed and who their clients are did make this decision quite a bit more difficult for us. In the end our decision came down to a couple of simple FACTS!

Question: Would we profit from this or could we do something for the greater good by taking this skin?

Answer: YES, 100% for the greater good! Our intention was to turn around and take all proceeds that would normally benefit GFY and immediately use them to battle true content theft in as many levels as possible. Additionally, we felt that this was a great opportunity to allow the community to gain awareness and participate in healthy debate. Leaving the choice of support up to the community and not us.

Some individuals decided that they would take that debate beyond healthy, that was their choice. I don't blame them because this is an issue that is a very hot button for almost everyone, no matter what side of the fence you sit on.

All users banned this past week for posting links to other forums have been given a complete pardon and been unbanned. If I missed unbanning you please email myself or ICE and we will take care of it. If you were banned for another reason, that reason stands.

Putting this skin in front of all of you gave you, THE COMMUNITY, the opportunity to decide who and how you want to run your business. That is not for us to say. The community as a whole picks and chooses who survives and how the dollars we generate should be spent and who they should support. I would never tell anyone that they are forced to do this or that with their business.

Lastly, I want to give a huge SHOUT OUT to ICE, he is not a decision maker when it comes to these types of things. This week he took a lot of heat from many, in my eyes he handled it with flying colors and his efforts have not gone un-noticed.

Mr Pheer 09-28-2009 12:33 AM

You couldnt post this while the skin was still up?

Its not like it was never mentioned or anything...

CYF 09-28-2009 12:34 AM

Ice stated a couple of times, that he doesn't make the rules, he doesn't like banning people, but he's just doing his job.

Parking here with some popcorn.

XPays 09-28-2009 12:35 AM

good move to unban and reload

While the skin was live we wanted the debate and interaction to be focused on the skin. Trust me if I wanted to avoid the heat I could have done many things differently. The heat was taken on for the greater good.

hm, this could be another fun thread :Oh crap

My theory is that the "good guys" got some of the "bad guys" money, even if indirectly.

What's so wrong with that?

Better that it go here than somewhere else, right?

Besides, I haven't seen anyone step to the plate with donations to GFY so that such an ad sale never takes place again.

Now, inquiring minds REALLY want to know what the hell happened with that data center snafu and why did it take almost 24 hours to get back to normal speed? Even a move gone bad shouldn't take that long to recover, me thinks.

Agreed.

Now we'll see all those nigs who fell on their 'morals' sword while downloading or stealing their latest music/movie/video game/software/script claiming this was the end of their GFY career.

You can expect 90 some percent of them will be coming back like nothing happened. Which was always to be expected. Few stand by their so called convictions when the attention disappears. Especially in adult.

So welcome those nigs back with open arms since they will be back here in no time.

:thumbsup

Why would you ever donate money to a for-profit business?

Right now legally I can not state what happened as our lawyers are involved in that issue. Trust me, I had 6 hours sleep from Friday morning till the time I went to bed last night... In Amsterdam so it is almost 10am here.

Just out of curiosity, when it is decided how you will use the money to fight content theft will you be posting it here and letting everyone know what you are doing? I know you can't post the dollar amounts (or maybe you can), but it would be cool to see how you are using that money for the greater good. I think a lot of other people might like to know how to get involved as well.

Iron Fist 09-28-2009 01:03 AM

On a more positive note, GFY seems nice and fast with no timeouts anymore!

I might have to blame this on tubes as well...

LOL I'm gonna go ahead and read between the lines there and keep on thinking it was what I thought it was. If it is good drama (come on, it's part of the appeal of this place), I do hope we will get an update when you're cleared to discuss it.

On the flip side, why would anybody bitch about a for-profit business going after profits? This tends to be an industry where people only take a moral stance when they're not the one making the money.

I'd be curious how many of the people that bitched would turn down a premium pre-paid ad spot from Tube 8. I bet they wouldn't and would justify it to themselves by saying "eh, the surfers already know about this site, I'm not pointing them to anything they don't already know about, so I'll take the money."

Bye!

i gotta say, im actually seeing it.

the tubes are the only ones that can afford to skin gfy. that should tell you something.

everybody is bitching about tubes, but tubes are now. mainstream and porn is all tubes.

seeing it in my face here on gfy made me think about it all week. surfers want the tube experience, not the traditional paysite experience.

so what can a site owner do to deliver that experience? :winkwink::winkwink:

DefaultMan 09-28-2009 01:22 AM

Wow, it's been one hell of a week

NetHorse 09-28-2009 01:23 AM

Nice to see everything back to normal..:)

Dejan 09-28-2009 01:28 AM

If you sell advertising space to a new advertiser that supports illegal tube site, would you remove it after we start to bitching and get banned or you wouldn't sell it at all at the first place?

the Shemp 09-28-2009 01:28 AM

Shap 09-28-2009 01:43 AM

In the sports world if you deny using steroids nobody believes you and you are blackballed and assumed to be guilty.
If you admit to having fucked up all is forgiven. Your fans come back and you are loved once again. You are only human afterall.

In the adult industry if you deny doing anything wrong you are in the clear. As long as you never admit to being wrong it's all good. You are a bro.
If you stand up like a man. Acknowledge and admit to what you did and try to do things to either fix it or move forward you are condemned til the end of your days.

It's interesting. It's like webmasters prefer to be naive and never be told the easter bunny doesn't exist. I'm pretty sure that is because as long as a company denies doing something wrong the webmasters feel good about doing business with that company and don't feel they are guilty by association.

stickyfingerz 09-28-2009 01:43 AM

I find it funny all the ones that didn't give much of a shit about the issue previous to this all suddenly hopping on their high horse, and climbing on the bandwagon. I've been talking, and preaching and pushing the issue of content theft for 2 years now, and that something must be done and no one gave a shit. But OMG gfy puts a skin up and its a fucking global catastrophe. Fuckin posers. Some people were for real about it. Steve Lightspeed and I had a great conversation the other night, and some have always bitched about it. Funny everyone can unify to "blacklist" gfy but can't do dick about getting together to actually fight piracy. Maybe someday this industry will wake up and get their heads out of their asses, but I doubt it. Saw a big flurry of activity hoping to grab some of the gfy traffic, and saw a big flurry of lifetime banned people downright giddy and hoping to kick gfy while it was "down". Saw poor Ice having to deal with everything and yes that man deserves a bonus after all this. Im thinking Guitar of his choice "within reason" should show up in his hands.

And you know what everyone on gfy has at some point had a great time, or partaken in a gfy party etc. Yet you all were ready to kick them at the first chance you had. How many of you have built business based on connections you made on gfy, had your businesses flourish due to it etc? But ready to turn your backs at the first sign of turmoil.

Many of you learned a shit load of information due to this forum that has made you fortunes. Everyone needs to pause and think of that. Sad state of affairs... :2 cents:

I think it was a bad decision. I think the GFY owners were well aware of what some people thought of these tube sites and allowing TrafficJunky to skin the very board they contribute to is a stab in the back.

In the end money talks and I don't really give a shit as GFY gives me business and I got my own mouth to feed. I might have done the same, can't say for sure.
